Spermicide is a sham. It's detergent and kills such a low amount of sperm it's like putting a grain of sugar in a bucket of water to make it sweet.
What it can kill, however, is the good germs in our bodies, like the stuff that keeps us from getting infections.
So, although spermicide does not CAUSE urinary tract infections, it can certainly contribute to it.
Urinary tract infections can also be avoided by wearing cotton underwear, to allow the skin to breathe.

I used to get urinary tract infections all the time. The first few times I got them, my gyno gave me antibiotics. Then I went in for a visit, since I still kept getting them, and he gave me an exam. He said that my uretha is closer than usual to my vaginal opening . And when I have sex, bacteria gets into my uretha since it is so close and is coming in contact with the fluids. I now take an antibiotic a few hours before I have relations or I take the antibiotic right after I have relations. This has almost completely stopped me from having the infections. ~~My friend used to get frequent UTI's too...and it turned out that she had kidney stones. In any event, you should see your gyno.

When I had a urinary tract infection I asked the doctor this question. He told me that is can be caused from not peeing after you have sex. He told me that after you have sex you should try going pee and it will not get it as easy.

Yes spermicide can cause a UTI, so can not washing up good after sex, its a good idea to pee afterwards. If you already have one the doctor should be able to prescribe an antibiotic for it. Cranberry Juice (the all natural kind not the sweet stuff) is also good for them.

It may be an allergic reaction, or just bacteria got where its' not supposed too. They say every time you have intercourse you're supposed to urinate to force any bad bacteria out of those sensitive places, practice that for the future but for now, I would see a Dr if the irritation doesn't get better.

I've had one before and it was awful...but as soon as I got medication it helped immensely.

UTI's are notorioulsy caused by sex. Its just because the vagina is so close to where you pee from, its easy for bacteria to be transferred to it. Also, a bubble bath or soap that wasnt rinsed well enough, or a new soap can cause irritation or even a UTI.
