Some of my upper gums just the area around the teeth are red, but my bottom gums are fine. This is getting really annoying I do brush 2x a day and floss daily but the redness won't disappear, even after a dental cleaning the redness returned. Is partial gingivitis possible? Is gingivitis common in teens cuz it seems like I'm the only one with gingivitis. I'm 17 years old. What should I do? I want my gums to pink up and look nice like my friends'

The redness you're experiencing could be caused by a number of things. Here's what you can do until you get to a dentist to get a professional prognosis...
Change your toothpaste to a sensitive-type paste, such as Sendosyne. Some toothpastes are extremely abrasive, and this may be causing gum irritation. Also, lighten up on the flossing, especially on the top teeth for a day or so. The flossing may be what's also causing irritation. You may want to consider changing the type of floss, as well. If you are using mint flavored floss, it may cause aggravation.

Good Luck!

Get a power toothbrush! Overlap the SOFT brush on the gums and hold it there for a few secs. If the brush isn't soft hold it under hot water. If it's gingivitis then it will go away. Gingivitis is caused by bacteria plaque which is brushed off.

Colgate Total is a good toothpaste for treating gingivitis. Be sure to brush gently along the gumline in a circular massaging motion (better yet get a Sonicare or Oral-B power brush). At your next check-up have the hygienist demonstrate proper brushing and flossing technique.

Also Listerine twice daily. I recommend that strongly.

Yes you may a gingivitis. If you did when you went to your dentist last then they would have put you on a dental plan. Go back to the dentist and explain whats happening to them. You shouldnt just ignore this when your only 17.

if you had gingivitis when you got your teeth cleaned every 6 months your dentist would have addressed that to you ...ask your dentist why your gums are so red could be some kind of infection

you definitely have gingivitis........and in my opinion it's a juvenile type (happens in teens ) due to hormonal imbalances or disturbances and provoked by plaque ,but since you brush and floss then that won't be the cause ........so my advice is to use some types of mouth washes like listerine or in severe cases use perio-aid (chlorhexidine 0.12%).......and quit some irritating food like spices or sour food for a while, use a soft toothbrush and a non-abrasive toothpaste (not gel)....good luck and get well..
p.s. i'm a dentist
