Been there and done that – waking up 3am screaming loud enough to wake the neighbours, ripping my partners arm off, and finding it painfully hard to walk the next day – it's not nice.

Smoking or hormonal birth control can contribute to this problem but the main issue here is down to dietary problems, calcium and/or potassium deficiency, along with a lot of water to prevent dehydration try taking supplements for calcium and potassium, magnesium and B-complex vitamins will also help out, a more balanced diet including those lovely green vegetables, nuts/seeds and as has been mentioned bananas will all help out

Of course these aren't just going to help prevent those leg cramps but also be good for general health, all these are also good for menstrual problems as well as these are needed for a healthy uterus so you may find as well as leg cramps disappearing if you have any menstrual problems they will be relieved too – bonus!

it is not atypical, and would not unavoidably point out a deficiency. it extremely is achievable you're dehydrated, so ingesting some water could help. Doing stretching workouts after your workouts and earlier you bypass to mattress could help with the help of making you greater limber and protecting you from stretching previous your limberness while you're asleep. on occasion, leg cramps can point out a potassium deficiency, so which you would be able to attempt ingesting greater bananas (not a ton, one an afternoon will do it). Taking a warm bathe whilst the cramps take place, or protecting a heating pad close by to warmth the muscle if it occurs, can help cut back the discomfort of the cramp.

I get these all the time too, it's hard to get a good night's sleep.
Although a potassium deficiency is usually the problem, I've had blood tests and my potassium is fine but I lack magnesium, so I take a supplement with calcium. Talk to you Doc!!

Leg cramps are caused by lactic acid fermentation. This is your body's response to a lack of oxygen in the muscle tissue. Without the required oxygen to produce energy, the body switches to lactic acid fermentation...this is a less efficient way to produce energy.

I am having the same problem in the middle of the night. sometimes I turn and cramp up badly. for a few seconds i cannot move. i figured out that getting out of bed after a few minutes and stretching helps.

Definetly eat less salt and strech those muscles! My husband just started going back to the gym tomorrow and has been eating bananas every night and he says that have helped with his sore muscles.

I have the same problem. When I try to move my leg it either can't move or it hurts so much from the pain that I don't want to move it. I don't know what causes it. I think it's the cold but I'm not sure.

ask yourself. How much salt to you consume? Next do or have you checked to see if by some chance you have the marker or Hepatitis's C/ Next try to consume more water and potassium.
Good luck because I know they hurt like hell and can bring tears to your eyes!

low magnesium can cause this, as well as low potassium. eat a banana or a handful of raw almonds before bed. if you still have trouble, take a magnesium (chelated, not magnesium oxide) supplement. it is a natural muscle relaxant.

hope this helps!
