Canning technology has advanced so much that you can't tell the difference anymore. Canned beers are starting to show up at national competitions and doing very well.

One of my local breweries just installed a new packaging line and opted for cans instead of bottles because of cost, but did a sick amount of research into the taste, difference, etc.
Apparently beer in cans keeps better, ships better, stacks easier, is more durable, and tastes the same as bottled beer now. Kinda cool...now if they could only get past peoples prejudice against bitter/metallic taste the way cans used to be.

That being said, most of the beer I buy only comes in bottles...and I brew, so I like having empty cases around to refill with my own beer.

Cheers.

My friends like cans because it holds more. I prefer bottles. I think the beer tastes better out of a bottle. Cans give a tinny taste.

It depends on what I'm doing with the beer, if I'm at the bars usually a bottle if I drink beer at all, I'm a cocktail kinda gal. If I'm hosting a beer drinking party and its not a keg, definatly cans, cheaper and you can make a fourth of your money back.

I follow Martha's Vineyard summer rules. Bottles go with boxers, cans go with briefs (between Memorial Day and Labor Day only)

I buy cans because bottles are to heavy to drag to the curb in the recycling bin.
