I'm doing an interview with a Buddhist for a class report and was wondering what you believe in. Some questions you must answer are what your view on a god, or gods is, what you believe about the universe, YOUR personal conversion experience, and how you live out your faith. Please include valid info and sources if you have any. Also, if you know of a place where I can interview a Buddhist online, I would love to Know that. Thanks!

I will gladly answer your questions.

God: Buddhism is an agnostic religion, we neither believe nor do we disbelieve on god, because of the fact that blind faith creates blind attachment. An attachment to the idea of god makes attaining Nirvana impossible.

Universe: Buddha never went into metaphysics, he believed that it was incomprehensible to us. It is not relevant to our philosophy, in any case.

Conversion: I gave up Christianity at the age of 11 when I had the courage to admit that it made no sense to me. For 3 years I studied many religions, finally deciding that Buddhism was right for me at the age of 14. I did this without ever speaking to another Buddhist, so I wasn't converted. His teachings just made sense to me.

Living out my faith: I follow the noble eight-fold path, feel genuine compassion for others, and meditate. I also try to help people in any way that I can.

As for an interview, you could try interviewing one of the Buddhists on Y!A... so far I know that Sista, Makiko, and I are Buddhists that are on here. There are others too...

I personally don't think about the questions that your interview consists of. For me, buddhism is about having no mental or physical attachments, not even to buddhism. I don't think that buddhism is about what you believe, or even how you think. It's definitely not about what you think of. I haven't considered a moment of conversion. I think you kind of grow into buddhism, gradually but definitely. There is no turning back. I don't live out my faith, or I don't think that I do. That's an irrelevant question.

These are my answers. I can't say for sure if I'm a "Buddhist" or not. It doesn't matter to me. I do know this, claiming to be a "Buddhist" does not make one a buddhist.

Where you may be able to go online to interview a Buddhist would be the Yahoo! Buddhist message forum.

Go to the message boards, then go to the religion & belief message boards, & there you should be able to find the Buddhist forum.
