another method of hooking up external devices to a car head unit is to get ureself a CD/MD changer, the RCA leads that connect to the BUS AUDIO IN on the back of the unit and easily be converted to connect to a I POD, i know it seems a silly thing to do just to get an I POD working in a car , except do this and u'll have a CD head unit with a MD ability and IPOD connection. You win on every avenue!!
Previous experiance with the FM transmitters, all good except the audio quality is shite, that goes for tape adapters too!!

Crutchfield dot com and call them and ask just what you want your I pod to do in your car. I do not want FM modulation either. Many car owners want there ipod menus and artists on the car radio and that takes complex programing of the songs and files on the I pod that sounds like that's your hang up. Custom reprograms and up dates at Ipod.com there up to version 1.7 ithink
