HDSLA has a website that lists the laws and requirements for PA in an easy to read format. They will also have a link to the homeschooling association of PA, as well as other groups which may be near you. We just moved from PA, and let me tell you- the laws are a pain in the tush, but most of the school districts have enough to keep them busy without bothering with the homeschoolers. The families in the homeschool group can help you make the arrangements you will need to make to get started and keep up, so be sure you contact them. We met loads of homeschool families schooling "off the books" as it were, but I don't recommend doing that. It sets up a bad example for your kids and can get you into loads of trouble if you get caught. I never knew anyone who did- but I didn't feel it was worth the risk personally. The worst requirement was having the year's work and the student evaluated each year by a psychologist or teacher. You have to find one near you, who will agree to do it. The one's near us charged $125 per child per year, though we were fortunate to have a neighbor who was also homeschooling her own children who did it for us for free.
Good luck on getting started in homeschooling.

I agree with North. I am a student learning with a HS program. While my friends are learning, they are learning more about drugs and all that other junk. Here at Crossroads Charter Academy, I am graduating ahead of all my friends. I have a general idea about what to do with my life. This lets me work at my own pace and makes sure that I get nothing below a B-. My brother also does it and he is only a freshman, and he is learning all the things that my friends are learning.

You should look into the dept of education for PA and the federal dept of education. Your local school board would be a great place to start. The state rules for homeschooling should be on-line.

wow. that previous answer was an eye opener on how different each state can be. I'm really thankful I live where I do.

The website is: www.hslda.org.

Ditto on the good luck!
