Okay, I am on the birth control pill Portia, which is the generic of Nordette. I'm taking this because that's all the pharmacy in my school offered, and I am fine with that. My question is, I thought birth control pills were supposed to DECREASE cramping? This evening, i've had some of the most terrible cramping ever, and it feels awful. Even when I wasn't on the pill, my cramps were never bad...they were merely a minor annoyance. But these are the worst. If some people use the pill to decrease menstrual cramps, then why do these hurt so bad? I never experienced any type of cramping with Nordette, and my periods were wonderfully light, and I assumed that since Portia is the generic equivalent, then it would be the same way. Does the pill increase abdominal cramping for some of you? Is that a side effect?

Guerilla: sorry for the confusion, but I am not in high school. I'm in college...Graduate school as a matter of fact. :-)

Thanks for the responses everyone! They have really subsided and I feel better now, and I think will talk to my doc about getting something different. Can't take this on a regular basis. Thank you! :)
