i considered "eliminate bad credit for good on line sites" to my understanding they're scams...bankrupcy sounds like the last option and i'm not that bad in debt..less than 5000...i'm hesitant in contacting creditors and the "bureaus"..i'm not trying to put the cart before the horse but, if my credit score is let's say...544...how long ,realistically, would it take to have a decent credit score provided that i pay my debts???any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Dave Ramsey has common sense approach that gives you a realistic plan for getting out of debt. He's on CBS in the morning every so often. You are wise in not contacting credit bureaus on something you can do yourself. (That's what Dave's plan does.) Without knowing how you got a low credit score its hard to say how long it will take to get your credit score up but usually it takes from 6 months to 2 years depending on the offense. 5000 compared to others isn't much compared to others , but debt is still a mean monster. Try not to go over 30 days late with anything. After 30 days late companies report to the credit bureaus especially credit card and loan companies. The one thing you do not want to go over 30 days is your mortgage payment. That's a biggie and hurts credit bad. Good Luck.

I am a real estate agent with a client with credit similar to your score. He started paying off everything last year and still thinks he needs some time in order to qualify for the best interest rates. As long as you do the right things, such as pay off on time, and do not close all your credit lines, just make sure that the amount extended is commensurate with your ability to pay- maybe a year or so should do it.

Yes, those places are scams - you can do the same thing they do by doing ALOT of research. It's time consuming and sometimes confusing, but it can be done - good luck.
