Long story short. . .
Because when Spain invaded the Phillipines they also procreated with many of the Filipinos. . . generations pass, but Spanish features (and last names) remain evident. Many, many Filipinos also have Spanish blood.

I'm Filipino but with Chinese descent. Actually, I am one of those people also, one instances when I watched " Project Runway" and saw one of the Contestant Designer named Guadalupe Vidal, it came up on mind that she's a Filipino because of her physical feature and her name. We, Filipinos are using Spanish last names during Spanish era, the Spaniards made a law that every Filipino should chose and change their last name into Spanish. That's is why until now, we still have it...Don't you know that the Spaniards colonized the Philippines for almost 400 years, that's why we filipinos have spanish traits and culture also and some part of Philippine which is in Mindanao still speaking spanish....Don't be embarass when people think about that lol, as long as you're talking fluent spanish, they'll know that you're not a Filipino....lol...
