Is it true that Quakers shake and tremble when they are in a circle thinking about God?

Or has someone been lying to me?

I've been to several Quaker meetings, and nobody shook. Not even once.

"The name 'Quaker' was first used in 1650, when preacher George Fox was brought before Justice Bennet of Derby on a charge of blasphemy. According to Fox's journal, Bennet 'called us Quakers because we bid them tremble at the word of God.'"

I think that the Shakers shake . They splintered off the Quakers in the late 1700's who also went into convultions and shook during worship rituals.

The Quakers might quake, I don't know, but the Shakers shake.
Shakers made some fine furniture too.

Oh I just love stupid people like me. No really I do - You are thinking of the nutters who swoon and start ranting in a trance , falling to the floor (after being caught by the other nutters in the circle, you know) speaking in tongues or something disgusting which I wish they would do at home along with all their other weird habits.. Any way I used to do the same, shake and tremble but that was the drink but at least I confess and don't blame poor God for everything. (Come to think of it I used to end up on the floor talking in tongues as well) They are called Pentecostals and another bunch of pests.

Some of them may still shake at times.

They got their name back in the 1700 (not sure of date), Some of them were taken to court, and they had to take a vow to God with their hand on the Bible. They feared to make vows to God, and they were shaking as they did it.

Yes we do, not all the time though. Sometimes it is a prelude to spoken ministry.

It is my understanding that this is how they got their name. It is also my understanding that they no longer shake in the presence of God.

That's a good question. And if they do, then do Shakers quake?
