Every time my puppy does his business, I have to wipe his butt because he always leaves something hangin' (lol, sorry TMI) Anyway, I have been using baby wipes lately to wipe/disinfect him after he poops. Will this hurt him?

He is a 8 wk old pug puppy. He does have worms, the breeder we got him from did not do their job in de-worming him, so we have to do that fun task. I know this is why he has messy poo, because it cannot be his diet. He ONLY gets Purina Puppy Chow ( 1/3 cup in the morning and 1/3 cup at night, plus individual pieces of the Puppy Chow as treats) No table scraps, plenty of water, very healthy puppy. Once the worms are gone his bowels should be normal, right?

that wont hurt him. We use them at our vet hospital, but only use them until the worms are cleared up. His stool should return to normal within a few weeks. Be sure to recheck the stool sample to make sure that all of the worms have been destroyed. Be sure to wash your hands well after each butt cleaning as he can spread them to you if you don't wash your hands and accidently put your fingers in your mouth. (gross thought but it happens)

Your question should maybe be, why does my puppy always have something hanging after going to the bathroom? His stool should be firm with no mess left behind on his rear. Are you making sure that you are feeding him only puppy food? No table scraps as this can lead to messy messes. Plus the puppy food has the nutrition his little bones and system needs to grow up healthy. Baby wipes should not be harmful. But a bad diet can be. If it is not the diet, has he been checked yet for worms? They are frequent in puppies and easy to cure and they can cause the mushy messes. Good Luck and have fun with that sweet puppy!

you are absolutely correct. Make sure you also get his shots, that is very important in the first 4 yrs.. and the baby wipes are great. They can also be used as a quick rub down to make the puppy smell fresh and clean, anytime you want. Remember though, if you are hungry, your puppy probably is also, so you might want to consider open feeding, after the worm issue is gone. Just leave a bowl of puppy food and water, where the puppy has free access to it.

No babywipes will not hurt the puppy, I can imagine that it will get quit expensive to keep wiping a puppy butt. My first thought is maybe you are giving the puppy the wrong kind of food. The bowl movement should be solid and not leave any tracers around. Maybe you are giving the puppy the wrong kind of food for its digestive system.

No, it won't hurt him. Is he a long haired dog? You say puppy, how old is he?

Are his bowels soft? If his bowels are too soft you don't want any stool getting into his anal sacs, that in itself is a dirty job, cleaning them out.

Make sure you are feeding him a diet that allows for his stool to harden, that will cut down on soft stool and getting his bottom soiled.

Dogs learn to clean themselves pretty effeciently when they get older. The Mother dog would have licked the pups behind as newborns up until 6 weeks to stimulate their bowels and keep them clean and also stimulate urination.

Just keep at eye on him and ensure you cut and shave the area around his anus if it continues to be a problem.

No this will not hurt your puppy, as long as you didn't use Soups. Just keep an eye on the part you are wiping and make sure he doesn't get an allergic reaction, the way to tell this is if it goes ed or inflamed or he stops doing his business all together. something else you may consider using is just a damp cloth, it will d the job just as well. Good- luck with your puppy.

They already make puppy wipes. I would say as long as there is no alcohol you would be ok, or you could by the puppy wipes as below.

I would be more concerned about his bowels. Does he have long hair and the poop get caught on it? Or are his stools really hard? Or really loose and that is what is on his fur?

My mom uses doggie wipes, made especially for dogs. If you are using baby wipes not sure if there is a chemical in them to harm your pet. Gosh and I thought only my mother wiped her dogs tushes. .ahahaha. Doggie wipes might be a bit more expensive, but I would check out the chemicals in both and compare. They could be the same!

baby wipes shouldn't as they were made with babies in mind to begin with. If he's leaving something hanging alot, then you might want to consult a vet, or if it's because he has long hair, trim him a little bit around that area so he doesn't get hung up.

No, I have done that. But, don't wipe too hard because the baby wipes have alcohol in them and could irritate the skin.
