we moved from a house to an apt. Before we moved he was a good boy towards other dogs. Now that we live in an apt. he gets very very aggressive; barking, whining and pulling. No matter what I say or do he ignores me and freaks out. I have him on a gentle lead but it dosn't deture him. I am worried that he will hurt another dog and in fact the neighbors are talking about his behavior. Help make my blacklab/chow chow be a good boy again.

First of all, is he neutered? How old is he? He's probably being aggressive because he's frustrated, he's not got any freedom to run being in an apartment. When a dog comes toward you, do you tense up, or tighten the leash? Your dog will pick up on your tension and react to it. He thinks there's a reason you're tense so he reacts aggressively. I would suggest that you get him neutered if he's not, then attend classes with him to get help managing his behaviour. You need someone who can teach you to train your dog based on his reasons for behaving the way he does.

Something has changed between you and dog. because he does not look to YOU as pack leader anymore. Leaving dog alone more? No stimuli now? Really messes with doggy, dog is a creature of normality. Some quality time when you get home every day at the exact same time run with dog then dog park and treats for good interaction with other dogs? You must go back to obedience school before doggy tears up your house for attention! Dog attitude change is not something to mess with! Because replacing carpet or sofa in your new apartment is the next surprise. If dog surprises you don't react mad or hit just go back to school and get inside of dogs world.

Talk to your vet, changes in behavior can occasionally be due to a physical problem, or just stress. See if your vet knows a trainer that is familiar with dog aggressive dogs, this behavior needs to be nipped in the bud.

Try a choker...they offer better control of your dogs. My rotti is the same way. She used to be fine with other dogs and then she went nuts. I put a choker on her and when we see other dogs, a) I make her sit down by pulling up on the leash so the choker gets tight around her neck. Then I sit in front of her and talk to her and give her cookies tell her she is a good girl. Normally treats distracts her. B) If this doesnt work, I pull up on the leash so her choker gets tight and I make her walk along side of me while talking to her. I tell her to do nice and be a good girl. I suggest just trying to distract her and force him to walk with you. You have to show him your in control. Maybe, if you can't fix the problem by yourself, try investing in a trainer. Good Luck!

He is probably stressed because he is in an unfamilure place where he is not top dog anymore, he is trying to work out his place in the "pack", that is why he wants to fight everyone.

You can either let nature take its corse and let him sort his place out, or you can go get him desexed, it will calm him right down without all the hormones.

When u r walkng him have him sit down when he sees anotther dog. Just tell him "SIT". then let him look atthe dog until he gets bored. He probably got aggresive because he is not used to those dogs. He is also probably under stress from the move.

Wow. that's the same exact problem i have with my dog. and she is also a black lab. how funny?. I'm not worried that my dog wants to hurt other dogs though. She just wants to play with them so much. So maybe thats why your dog acts crazy when he sees other dogs.
