Use leave-in-conditioner after you shower (the spray in kind only... the other creamy kind makes your hair oily and weighs it down--taking the waves out). After putting in the conditioner brush your hair out and then spray some more on. Put on a generous amount of curl defining mousse and let air-dry. If you have really unmanageable hair then use hair spray, but this should be a last resort and shouldn't really be necessary if you use enough mousse.

When your hair tends to look poofy, try putting in a serum like Silk Therapy by Biosilk, or the Chi serum. They feel similar to an oil, but are lighter. Be careful though a little bit goes a long way, so you only need about a dime size (depending on thickness and length) and smooth it over the hair. It should help. It's what I use to tame the curls when they start getting frizzy and unruly.

A new brand of hair care products called Sunsiklk has special shampoo, conditionaer, and hair serum just for poofy hair. It is the Sunsilk in the blue bottle (the other colors are for normal, kinky, flat, etc.)
I use it and it seems to work well

i haven't tried these (yet) but u can try :

wrapping an ace bandage around & around your hair after u shower and let it dry that way. i'm guessing it'll take a long time. i read that in a magazine...

also, u can try buying those towels on infomercials or "as seen on tv" stores, that supposedly speed the drying process and u can just pin up ur hair in the towel and wait til it dries.

i used to wash my hair at night and sleep ON TOP of my hair (putting a towel on the pillow, and lay on top)

u can always get a straightener and just do the top and sides/bangs :) good luck!

Next time u get a haircut, ask ur stylist if she knows how to use a straight razor, I use one to thin out underneath clients hair , I do not use it on top layers, only underneath and it takes alot of the bulk out, it makes their hair easier to dry & style, this is called texturizing with a razor.

I HAVE THE SAME HAIR - god, it sux sometimes; doesn't it?

try playing it up instead of trying to smooth it down - I shower in the morning and don't touch it after i get out (except to fix my part if i have to). Just leave it. If you try to do to much to it, it will look flat / unnatural.
