We have about 40,000 troops in S Korea because of North Korea..In the 50s we (Its an 'A' word but I forget it, so il just say ceasefire) called a momentary ceasefire w/ N Korea..

What I dont think alot of people relise is..We never ended the war..We have 40,000 troops sitting at their border because we are still at war..I know we wont break it until sometime after Iraq..But thats why Im thinking we arent dealing w/ them now, were waiting for after Iraq, and thats why we havent signed a treaty or pulled out of S Korea

My question is if we break the ceasefire w/ N Korea after Iraq, Would China step in to help N Korea? Would Japan step in to help us (America), because theyve been getting pissed off about the N Korean "Test Missles"..And who all would step in to help us?..I know we could do it by ourselfs, well I know S Korea would jump in too..But who else would jump in to stop the nuclear threat in the world?

Loius B- So you think we should negotiate w/ someone trying to launch nukes?..They cant get them to the our homeland (America)..If they got lucky they MIGHT be able to get one into S Korea before we took out all of their Nuclear Facilitys within the first few days w/ missles and bombs..And all that would do is piss S Korea and Japan off and scare the **** out of them, causing them to attack w/ alot more power....

We could take N Korea very easily..They have more poorly trasined ground troops but barely an Air Force or Navy.. and we have over double the armor..China would be hard..But w/ Japan and S Korea..And any European countries that might help..We would win..Not easily..But it wouldnt be the hardest war weve fought

Banned 6 times- Over the past few months weve increased troops their from 28,000 to 36,000..Japan is aiming missles at N Korea..And S Korea is taking slowly taking men off Reserve and putting them on Active Duty..I see a war inthe near future..

As for the having to kill all the brainwashed civillians..Thats the problem we faced in WWII w/ Japan..After we take out N Korea's Nuclear Facilitys we could drop a couple Nukes like wedid Japan..And they would fall into line

I actually asked a question very close to this a few hours ago and for some reason didn't hear much back.

China is getting pretty pissed off from North Koreas "lone gun" attitude. Japan has called it "unforgivable, South Korea wants to invade and has for years, and Russia won't lift a finger. We as Americans won't invade for several years if we do anything at all. Currently we have 29,500 troops at the DMZ and by this time in two months we'll have 50,000 there to prove a point. If anyone will invade in the next 5 months it will be South Korea in conjunction with financial support from Japan.

One thing you have to understand is the want for war on North Koreas part. They are a society raised to hate America. They are even taught they could take the entire world over if need be, even while their people are starving to death. N.K. has a huge military budget in contrast to any other budget they have. they have some of the best tanks in the world for fighting on Korean soil. our M1 Abrahms is much to heavy to do any good there. They have a tank that is fast, powerful, and very...VERY agile. Our biggest fear as Americans should be if South Korea actually invades. we will be forced to "mediate" in other words we'll supply weapons to N.K. enemy. Now, this makes us more than a political enemy, it makes us a domestic enemy. I believe that Kim will exploit this in everywhere possible way if he feels we are aiding the "enemy". This means anyone who worried about terrorists from towelheadville should sleep with one eye open, The North Koreans are very capable of doing anything you can think of.

lets use the sub as an example. a few years back read about this, so its a bit foggy. But, the story is close. A sub from north Korea stopped working(crashed, wrecked whatever) in south Korea. The South Korean government offered t go out and get them and return them home safely. one thing lead to another and the people on the sub killed themselves rather than being captured by South Korea. This is the issue we would face, a whole society of people that will die instead of giving up. We would have to kill every last man, woman and child to actually win. The only way to destroy Korea is to starve them to death and ban all aid and imports. it will be interesting to see what happens.

The Answer to this Question (and some other points):

The PRC will likely intervene if we roll North Korea again all the way to the Yalu. To them, an American military presence on a Chinese land border is unbearable; it would be as if a Venezuelan-Cuban axis rolled Mexico, or the PLA rolled up Guam.

Japan is in no position to truly intervene militarily because it is crippled by a "Peace Constitution" imposed by the Americans after the Second World War that forbids the Japanese government from engaging in anything other than "defensive" warfare - which literally means if the DPRK doesn't land troops on Japanese territory, the Japanese can't do a thing. That this "Peace Constitution" prevents Japan from raising both is defense budget and military forces to something on par at least with, say, the UK or France also prevents the Japanese from committing more than Aegis destroyers to work with the 7th Fleet, and a couple of fighter squadrons (F-15J and F-16 clones).

There isn't any other nation in the region besides the Russian Federation capable of intervening militarily in any sort of meaningful way whatsoever. In fact, all the potential belligerents are all members of the currently suspended Six-Nation Talks on the DPRK's nuclear weapons status.

It is EXTREMELY UNLIKELY we would be permitted to go nuclear on the Korean Peninsula, regardless of whether the DPRK has medium-range ICBMs with any accuracy whatsoever. Our ROK allies, the Japanese, the Russians, and the PRC would NOT tolerate any such actions, no matter what sort of conduct the DPRK engaged in. Radiation fallout would impact all the nations in the region and create a humanitarian catastrophe beyond measure if the Americans added to it in the narrow confines of the Korean Peninsula.

We could NOT "take" the DPRK easily. Anyone with even a basic understanding of military history understands that American advantages in technology are largely negated by an enemy that chooses to engage at "grab by the belt" distances, especially in the sort of troop density that the Korean Peninsula imposes on combatants. There's a reason we could not beat back the PLA and the DPRK military in the 1950s even with superior technology. That the DPRK has nearly 120,000 of some of the most brutal and effective light infantry in the world, so renowned that North Korean troops have been rented out as prize mercenaries in a number of African conflicts. Anyone who has any delusions to the contrary or questions about the skill of the Korean fighting man should remember that during the Vietnam War, an understrength ROK Marine platoon routed an entire NVA Regiment, inflicting over 400 KIA in mostly hand-to-hand combat for 2 of their own, an accomplishment never even remotely duplicated by the Americans.

As for Japan "aiming missiles at North Korea", the idea is COMPLETE AND TOTAL NONSENSE. That's something I'd only tell my friends in the Japanese military's GHQ as a joke over sake. As for the ROK limited mobilization of reserves, they do that all the time to maintain readiness. Mobilization is NOT a sign that the ROK military is ready to goto war. Nothing in the current ROK military's warfighting doctrine lends weight to OFFENSIVE operations. The ROK military (indeed, all of their defenses and infrastructure) have always worked under the assumption that the DPRK would invade, and ROK forces would be on the defensive.

The notion that we could "kill brainwashed civilians" by "dropping a couple of nukes" again is COMPLETE AND TOTAL NONSENSE. Not only is it a gross violation of the Laws of Land Warfare to target civilians with WMD, it is, for reasons stated previously, an unmitigated political, economic, social, and environmental disaster to employ nuclear weapons on the Korean Peninsula.

This is why people who do NOT have a grounding in the study of geopolitics do NOT serve in the State Department. The notion that random members of the public both inexperienced and unqualified should even presume to state that measures such as the employment of WMD are necessary is disgusting to the extreme. The situation on the Korean Peninsula deserves to be treated with far more gravity that most Americans - who have no knowledge of the region, the various forces involved, the costs of war - are capable of ever giving.

Wow. Ok. First, the threat level brought into the mix against us always dictates our measures to conduct a war. Second, we could carpet bomb thier command and military assets- including nuclear facilities for a few days, and wipe them out. If China got into the mix, I am confident that the U.S. could quickly inflict enough damage on China to make them cry to momma. Japan could be beefed up and plunged into their own fight in a heartbeat with help from us. All this is yet to come to pass if Pying-Pong or whatever his name is don't get real. If I had it to do, I would tell him Japan will be attacking him soon. j/k

If you have been South Korea, might you desire to reunify? Think how difficult it used to be for Germany to reunify. The East used to be very deficient and below built, now multiply that through a component of no less than 30. The "Great Leader" will ought to die first in any case.

Breaking the armistice with North Korea would be bad and is the wrong solution to the current problem. South Korea and Japan would not likely support an attack and would likely receive the brunt of Kim Il Jung's missiles. China would get very nervous and may move against Taiwan. Before you know it, we have WW III. More appropriate is to continue our isolation of North Korea and to continue with the six party talks. Kim has limited nukes and can deliver them against South Korea any time he wants. He knows this and we know this. Better to continue the talks to determine what he wants.

I would much rather take our troops from there and mind our own damn business... and secure our borders from anyone attacking us. If america has the right to have Nukes, why shouldn't any other country? I am tired of this Team America World Police garbage.

and you realize that they have the LARGEST airforce in the world right?

China would not do anything.

The US is China's biggest trading partner by far, and North Korea is becoming a real pain in the butt to China.

They may talk one thing, but what they will do is another....it is always about the money.

Always.
