Smoking, dancing, singing, having a blast. Glitter, masquerade, scantly clad, loud music, drama, deception. An era that always comes to mind for me is the 1920's.

Cabaret for me is a form of dance. It is danced at some dance competitions, and possibly at other dance performances. The one I've seen is done by a couple. The music is a mixture of jazz, ballroom and Latin. Really, the music can be anything. Cabaret allows lifts and drops, unlike many other competitive dance forms. It involves a lot of gymnastic elements. They also use props like chairs, coffee tables, lanterns, canes and what not as the integral part of the dance routine. The cabaret dance is very expressive and usually tells a love story.
