I would suggest something simple, that doesn't require a lot of attending to, as you want to entertain, not be locked in the kitchen.

main course ideas (something to stick in the oven): pot roast, cornish game hens, chicken
sides (simple cooking, full flavors): pasta salad, corn on the cob, grilled veggies (peppers, carrots, squash)
desert: ice cream

Here's some of my favorites...

Penne` Pasta with a good Ragu sauce, preferably one of their robusto selections.

Grilled lemon chicken. I boil my chicken in either chicken broth or with boullion cubes until cooked, then I finish it up on my Foreman Grill. I dash some lemon juice on it while it's grilling. Tastes awesome!

I also make garlic bread that's always a big hit.

First get a loaf of fresh uncut french or italian bread, I usually get this at Wal-Mart. They sell them for $1 here. You'll alse need some provelone slices from your deli.

Second, slice it in half down the middle so you have two long flat slices. Then brush on some butter or margarine, your preference. Remember it's going to melt down into the bread.

Sprinkle it with garlic powder not garlic salt, (which I think is nasty.)

Cover the top side, (buttered side) with provelone and bake on a cookie sheet until the cheese is well melted.

Slice and serve.

Well, it all depends on what they like and your cooking level. I would stick with something simple, like Steak and potatoes, mac and cheese. Veggies. You cant really go wrong with the simple things, plus dont forget that you can take them out to eat!!! Hope you have a good time with your parents!!

All depends what they like, but Italian food always makes the house smell good. Like lasagna, stuffed shells, chicken cutlets, chicken alfredo, etc.
