Ishmael was his 1st son born to him by his wife's handmade, Hagar. His wife, Sarah, conceived a son named Isaac. Since Ishmael was born 1st, some arabs believe he has the right to the promise land, not Isaac. But God told Abraham he will give his conventant to Isaac not Ishmael.....So in theory, Isaac represents Christainty and Ishmael represents Islam....

Biblically, it would be Issaac.
Sara had the option of declaring Ishmael as her own and she did not do it. So, Ishmael was never declared a legal son by Abraham, hense the saying by God to Abraham.
Take your son, your only son and ....................
Genetically, the first born son would have been Ishmael, but it is interesting to note here, that God did not acknowledge first born status or genetically status of Ishmael.

he had Ishmael with Hagar (his wifes hand maiden/slave) since Sarah seemed to be barren.
then he had Issac with Sarah
ugh, my memory is going bad, I can't remember when her name was changed, so she might have been Sarai still on the first one...
