Is it possible to buy a bridesmaid's dress from a bridal store and ask them to stitch cap sleeves on the dress for you? I know a bridesmaid in my sister's wedding would prefer cap sleeves, and I have tried searching the internet, but every sleeve out there is just too long or the dress is ugly. Has anybody done this before? Did it turn out good? What would you suggest?

It IS possible for a bridal shop or seamstress to put a cap sleeve on a dress. I used to work in a bridal shop, and we had customers ask those questions all the time. It depends on wether the dress is strapless, or spagetti straps...both ways possible, it just might be somewhat easier if its somewhat strapped. if not, its really not a big deal, you would just take the extra fabric and sow one end of the capped sleeve to the front of the dress, and then sow the other side to the back of the dress. take it to a seamstress and let her know how thick you want the cap sleeve to be. believe me, its not difficult at all, and she should charge you no more than $40 for it...anything higher than that is a complete rip off. I wouldnt search the internet, i would instead go to the bridal shop your sister bought the bridesmaids dresses from...and if shes still looking for dresses, here are some good designers to check out that have styles already with a cap sleeve...

I hope this helps! :)

Research a good private tailor outside from the bridal store and find out ahead of time what a price estimate and turnaround time would be. If the b/m loves cap sleeves already, then she's probably got some biceps worthy of showing... if not, a nice shrug or wrap can be tied around the back and it ends up almost looking like a short sleeve. Good luck!

Actually, a cap sleeve is not a very flattering look for most people. But if you decide to get something added on, you will be amazed at how wonderful the seamstresses can be at wedding shops - mine did some amazing alterations, and you couldn't notice a thing!

It's possible, but have a tailor handle it, NOT the bridal salon. You'll get a better price and result.

What about a bolero jacket or some sort of a wrap instead? I was in a wedding where one of the bridesmaids was Muslim and she was able to have a jacket and head scarf made to match the dress and it looked fabulous!

Unless you have great arms, cap sleeves can make you look huge.

However, most tailors are able to put on a cap sleeve if you really want one.
