Would you be shocked if you were over at a friends house and saw a bottle of antidepressants on the counter? And how so? Would you confront them about it?

These days everyone seems to be on something so seeing a bottle of antidepressants would be a very little shock.

It's none of your business. If you saw a bottle of penicillin instead, what would you do? Nothing, right? Then do nothing. "Confronting" that person implies that you think that taking antidepressants is dirty somehow. If you take antidepressants yourself, though, you probably could say something to offer support and say, "Hey, I'm there with ya bud..."

OMG....who are YOU to CONFRONT anyone....especially a friend, about taking antidepressants?

There is still a seriously sad stigma attached to even the most mild cases of depression and it sickens me.

Sometimes, people need medications to help balance their moods and there is NOTHING wrong with that.

Now, if the meds were not prescribed to them and you had the feeling they were planning on taking them all at once, that would be a completely different story and yes, you'd somehow need to help them.

There would be no reason to confront them.

If they are depressed, they obviously took it into their own hands and got professional help. They are dealing with it in a healthy way, so there is really no need for you to say anthing.

I could see wanting to confront them if they were cutting, or any other type of body harm, but medication is healthy.

I don't think I would be shocked and if I talked to them about it I would tread lightly. Depression is very serious, you may just open up and ask your friend if he would like to talk about it or if there is anything you could do to help. Talking about ones problems with someone that will not judge you can be a big relief. We can never know what troubles one might have.

personally, i wouldn't be shocked. a lot of people are prescribed antidepressants these days. and depending on how close you are with the person should determine whether or not you should discuss it. people sometimes like to keep things private for just casual friends. good luck

the reasons that they were prescribed by a psychiatrist are so personal that if they haven't told you about than it is none of your business. it is ok because just like getting another kind of helpful prescription from the doctors. they are taking the first steps to helping themselves. it is only a good thing and you shouldn't be shocked. you should be shocked if they stop taking them suddenly. that would be a shocker.

I might be surprised - but you could assume that they are prescribed and a confrontation would not be needed, and would be an invasion of their privacy.

If they want to tell you about their depression, they will. If not, focus on other parts of the relationship.

I would be shocked and I think it would be best to confront them and try to help them out.
