Is cutting serious? I sort of cut, sometimes I scratch. I once scratched off layers of skin. It was really red and bloody, and I still have huge scars. But oh well. I'm crazy. I think my teacher was looking at my arm today when I was picking up papers, and probably wondered why a wear a ton of black bracelets? Do teachers ever suspect these things?

I don't like my counselor. I barely know him.

Eh? I'm not goth, I actually have dark blonde hair. People would probably consider me a prep, even though I hate stereotypes, and I don't care for Ambercrombie/Hollister. I like vintage/ish clothing if you know what I mean. I'm just too fat to look good in it. 5'4 135 :-000

I agree with the attention thing with some people. But no one actually knows about this and I intend to keep it that way...except for all you lovely people ;)

Yes, cutting is very serious. You're hurting yourself. It's dangerous and destructive. But more importantly, there's something going on that you can't deal with any way but cutting. Ultimately, you need to learn to deal with things without hurting yourself. You need to talk to someone (parents, school counslor, school nurse, family doctor, teacher, or any adult you trust) so you can get help to learn healthier ways to deal with things.
Yes, teachers do notice these things. But if they notice, they won't just ignore it. They might confront you about it, send you to the school counselor or nurse, and/or contact your parents. If your teacher thought you were cutting yourself, you'd probably know.
I remember once one of my classes met outside, and it was a really hot day, and I was really tired, so I took my sweater off even though there were cuts all over my arm. To me, it seemed like all anyone would see were the cuts. But no one noticed. They weren't looking for it. The point is what seems obvious to you may not be so obvious to someone who isn't checking your arm for cuts, or watching for signs that you're cutting yourself. To you all those bracelets are a dead giveaway that you're cutting, but to everyone else they're just a fashion statement.

I know this sounds rude, and this is coming from someone with A LOT of mental illness.
I think it is all for attention. Maybe you aren't getting it somewhere. It's totally a choice how you vent out your anger. If you chose to cut, murder, rape, kill, bang on walls, start fights, go to a bar and get wasted. It is a choice. You make it!
It may be a problem, but it is also a choice. It is INSANE that people have started cutting themselves so much in the past few years, as well as given themselves a name, and style "Emo".
This isn't something that was happening to every tom dick and jane in the neighborhood even just a few years ago. Now it's a freaking style. If it isn't for attention, then you wouldn't talk about it, and flont it so people will say ohhhhhhhhhhh my gosh are you ok?!!!! There are other ways to deal with anger. The only person that your hurting is yourself by doing this. Imagine what you look like from the outside!
Your responce is said with such pride. Put your head up and stop! You only have one life to live, why would you waste it like that? One day you might look at the scars, and yourself, and possibly yourself at your own funeral, and be in shame for who you were in life. Be a person that you can be proud of, as well as others. Take it from me if you mess up enough times you cannot change anything. You will be the FKD up you forever, as you sit back and watch your friends have all that you wish for. While you are alone, looking for attention.

Teachers do notice these things because they are trained to do so. They study psychology and talk about what to do when they see potentially problematic situations. Part of their job is to look out for your well-being since they see a lot of you, and they often develop relationships with you and care about you.
Also, cutting is serious. The above answers are right in saying that it is dangerous and could result in death even if you are careful. Perhaps you don't get along with your school's counselor, but you need to talk to someone that you trust and get some help. If you are cutting, you may be dealing with some other emotional issues that cause the action without even realizing it. Talking it out with someone who knows about counseling and psychology is very helpful. DO NOT try to handle this on your own. Get help because it will get worse otherwise.
Lastly, 135 at 5'4" is not fat. I'm of a similar shape. We're not fat at all just because we don't look like the anorexic models we see in the media. Learn to love yourself for who and what you are!

Yes, actually, it is very serious. Let me put it to you in a real-life way: Your Mom (friend, sibling, Auntie, whatever) comes in on you cutting, and they'll think you're suicidal, despite the fact that you're not. (You're not, are you? If so, get help.) And besides, you don't know where all of your veins are. You could slice one open and die, literally, before an ambulance arrived (that is, if you weren't in shock and called one.) My humble suggestion: quit. If the compulsion to cut persists, see a doctor. For your own good.

Self destructive behavior is never a good thing. Ask yourself why you are doing this. What are your triggers? stress? anger? Then try to think of better ways of coping. Take up a hobby, run, talk to someone. Self destructing is never the answer.
Both of my parents are educators. If they notice, it is because they care, and not because they're being nosy. Talk to someone about your problems, please. There are people who really care and they can keep it confidential.

Yes, I'm sure they do. You are not hiding anything, and any degree of cutting yourself is serious. You should talk to your parents about getting some counseling. Maybe something is bothering you, or it's some sort of chemical imbalance. But whatever the case, please stop hurting yourself and get some help!

truthfully whether people admit it or not everyone hurts themselves whether physically(your case) or mentally like deliberately causing problems in their lives. so what should you do? stop . just stop. do something else(safer like writing in a stupid little diary or talking to a friend) but don't cut yourself . you can get disease from it and you could kill yourself. plus coming from someone who knows . do you really want to deal with people when they find out ? do you want to sit in a counselors office or have to talk to your parents about why you choose to hurt yourself and those around you by doing it ?

Yes they suspect.
And you cover your arms to hide the damage.
You need to talk to someone about your problems and quit the self destructive behavior.
