I have freedom of speech and it doesn't specify in what language. If you don't understand what I say or what I write then get yourself a damn translator, not everything in life is supposed to be nice and pretty! America doesn't have an official language, and even if it did I am still free to talk to my people in whatever language I choose. Now you're gonna tell me to get out? NO! I am staying here with my TRULY AMERICAN friends who accept cultural differences.

For all those illeterate white trashy people, note that I'm saying that I have all the right to speak Spanish. I'm not demanding you learn it, just quit cracking on Hispanics for speaking Spanish. Yeah, I do speak English, as you see, but I just can't stand those towns where they prohibit you from speaking or writing in Spanish.

I don't think most people would have any objection to your speaking Spanish, as long as you are courteous. That is, if you are in a room full of non Spanish speaking people, and you spent your time speaking out loud in Spanish to a buddy, it could become annoying. Unfortunately I have noticed English speaking people are too often guilty of that discourtesy when they are in a country where another language is spoken.
So it's not a question of what language you speak at all - just a question of respect and courtesy.

Freedom of Speech only goes so far though.. America does have a language. it is English. that is why in school you take Spanish as a foreign language. I don't care what you do with your friends or at home but if you want customer service learn English.

Info from page below!!!
English is the language of freedom, commerce and opportunity around the world. Declaring English the official language of the United States will provide legal protection against ill-advised government actions which harm or ignore English. On Aug. 1, 1996, the House of Representatives voted 259-169 to declare English the official language of the United States; the Senate never acted on the bill.

I think people should speak in whatever language they want. As long as they learn or are trying to learn English as a second language. People here DO need to know it as it IS the official language. Otherwise they won't understand important information that may help them. Speaking Spanish is perfectly acceptable as far as I am concerned. I have friends as well as family from all over the world with different backgrounds, Vietnam, Philippines, Japan, Italy, Spain, and Mexico. People can speak as they wish but i so feel they should attempt to learn English. If I moved anywhere else, people would expect me to learn their language

Americans can be very lazy when it comes to languages. Most other countries speak at least two languages, not America. And when we travel to other countries we EXPECT them to speak English. But you cant come here without knowing our language. It sucks, I'm not saying its right, but that is the American way......
We have a rotten attitude towards anything different, and an unrealistic expectation of others.

It is not a matter of expecting you to speak english with your friends, as much as it is in general. What I mean is, this is not mexico, this is not a predominently spanish speaking country. Why then should we have to put spanish on most products sold nowadays? Why should we cater to you instead of you conforming to us?

Yes, you speak english, but there are millions of mexicans that come here illegally that do not and expect us to bend over backwards to make it easy for them.

Sorry, no.

Hate on us "White crackheads" or whatever you called us all you like, fact is, this is our country, not yours. If you don't like it, you're free to leave... Encouraged I would go as far as saying.

You're completely right, it's that most Americans (doesn't include people who have the mental capacity to go and learn more than 2 languages) are so afraid that one day some other language will be spoken as much as English, and their only way to stop it is by telling people not to speak a certain language in order to stop this from happening. But what really makes me mad is the people who will reply to your question with "my taco is getting cold..." that is a respond from uneducated douche bags that don't know the difference between hot and cold, and have the audacity to call somebody stupid.

Hey, you can go ahead and keep speaking spanish, and guess what America will always be divided. Basically, the whites are the majority and you'll never stand side by side with me. Your not my American brother. Show some loyalty to this great country and maybe whites would cut you some slack

Who cares? Speak and write any language you choose... but if you speak Spanish to a person who doesn't understand the language, don't expect to get and answer! My wife is Cuban, but she speaks English to me because she wants and answer. When she's talking to her family she and they speak Spanglish! As long as there's communication and understanding, the language used is unimportant! Get over your anger, and communicate!!

I don't care if you're speaking personally to another Spanish speaker, but if you both can speak English and you're in a social or business atmosphere it's rude and inconsiderate.

I have no problem with whatever language you want to speak with your friends or family. It is when you want us to speak your language that I have a problem. English is the commonly accepted language.
