What is regular syrup? All syrup is Maple in origin. Unless you are talking about corn syrup. That would ruin the cookies. Always follow the recipe

You can use the fake stuff if you please,but real maple syrup does taste different,its also a natural product which is better for you

its possible, but if you take pride in taste then go for maple syrup. it is byfar greater in flavor than regular syrup. although both taste mighty great on waffles and pancakes.
