Magick is not necessarily bad. Magick is spelled differently to differentiate it from stage magic and other types of stage illusions. Research ceremonial magick, chaos magick and other types, and you'll find out that there's nothing espeically sinister about it. Magick, with this spelling, is often associated with an occult system known as Thelema, but is also used by other groups. I believe that Aleister Crowley's basic definition of magick was "the Science and Art of causing Change to occur in conformity with Will."

Magick is usually defined ritual acts performed with the intent to cause change or transform the practitioner or the environment. The loosest definition of magick is an act of intent or will expected to result in a specific outcome.

The spelling of magick with a 'k' was first used intentionally by Eliphas Levi to differentiate theurgic magick from stage magic. Crowley again revived this Elizabethan-era spelling in his own work.

Alternate Spellings: Majik, Magic

Magic is magic. There are all sorts of different ways to utilize it and it can be good or bad...it's a tool like any other. I wouldn't know how your friend did it, all I can figure is that the intent behind the magic might have been bad so therefore the magic manifested bad things.

And the only reason the K is there is because a man named Crowley decided to stick it on the end to try to differentiate it from stage Hollywood magic. I however see no such need.
