Of course you can, but if the Gods you choose don't fit, then they aren't right for you. Just persevere. It probably means you are more eclectic than completely Wiccan. Initiatory Wiccans in general don't follow all Gods, which is why I am eclectic also, but I do take some things from Wicca.

I am not Wiccan, and for just this kind of reason. Wicca is an initiatory religion with a specific pantheon to worship and call upon. If you do not want to worship the god and goddess in this personification, then you do not need to call yourself wiccan. Be happy being an eclectic solitary pagan, like most of the pagans out there! But don't go thinking you can change the religion to suit you - that's what got the christians in trouble, after all! Dividing themsleves again and again over who called who what, and how they worshipped.... what a mess....

My husband and I are the only folks in our area who follow our neo-pagan path. Others do not tell us what deities to worship. Wiccans--especially--have been very encouraging towards us.

We are not Wiccans because we do not have the same theology, practices, basic world view or deities that Wiccans have. We follow a Recon path because it fits our beliefs. If we identify ourselves with a particular neo-pagan religion then we find that our beliefs did not match up with that path and our deities were not worshiped by those on that path, others would rightfully let us know so we could stop identifying ourselves incorrectly. For example, I follow a Celtic Reconstructionist path. If I were to feel called to worship Egyptian deities, then I would no longer be following a Celtic Reconstructionist path. There is nothing wrong with honoring Egyptian deities but it wouldn't be appropriate for me to say that I am still a CR.

Perhaps Neo-Wicca would be a better fit for you?

Or Hellenism (Greek Reconstructionism)?

A person can worship whoever they want, belief is a personal thing and as such you follow whatever you wish to or whatever works well for you. No one has the right to tell you who you can or cannot worship, they can however point out what a specific religion follows or does not follow, and so if you do not follow said religion then point out to you that you are therefore not part of that religion.

When you are in a specific religion then that means that you follow the beliefs of that religion, Wicca follow the Horned God and Great Mother Goddess, Muslims follow Allah, Christians follow Jehovah, or Rastafarians follow Jah. If you do not follow the beliefs of a religion then you are not part of that religion – i.e. You cannot be Christian if you don't follow Jehovah, you cannot be Wicca if you do not follow the Horned God and Great Mother Goddess.

I personally believe that Gods and Goddesses are symbols used to connect with the Universal Consciousness or 'source'. Symbols are VERY powerful. You should choose a God/Goddess that you 'feel' is right for you. You will know it when you find her, but when you try and share the feeling with someone else you might find that you've lost her again. Some things are better when they are hidden, but that's just me.

I forgot to add, I am not Wiccan. I'm a Discrodian (our Goddess is Eris the Goddess of discrod and chaos).

I'm taking this as meaning you did not like people pointing out to you that Gaia is not the goddess that Wiccans follow. If you do some serious reading about Wicca you will understand that no one is telling you what you can or cannot believe in, we are telling you that by definition Wiccans do not follow Gaia.

Wicca does not stop you from believing in what you want; they do however require you to follow the same beliefs as them if they are going to initiate you into Wicca, because what's the point of you becoming Wiccan if you don't even believe in what Wiccans believe in??!!

You can't re-write the definition of a religion just because you want to take their name but not their beliefs, just as you can't re-write the meaning of anything else, if you did that words would become meaningless.....door horse goose pigmy chocolate at throw way the sunshine well night at computer, grass crying sight at the a way country, no tower way there their mouse, hotdog was sitting door, grass book cup fire envelope oxymoron symphony dog – you understand?

It is really up tp you to worship the goddess but before going into any religion you must look at all of the angles to see if you agree with them...

You can follow whatever gods you want, but in order to be wiccan you have to follow the beliefs and practices of wicca – you can't say 'I'm wiccan….but I don't believe in their beliefs, their practices, their doctrines or their gods and i haven't been initiated' as that would mean by definition you are not wiccan.

I'm christian but I don't believe in jesus christ, I don't believe in god, and I don't believe in heaven….so what then makes me christian? Nothing at all, therefore I am not christian. No one has told me what I can or cannot believe, I still believe the same as ever, people can however point out to me that if I believe in something other than christian beliefs then my beliefs are not that of christianity.

cool, im solitary too, most covens to avoid confusion ask you to follow the god or goddess the matron/patron of that coven. in gardenairian and alexandrian this is custom. but in eclectic wicca or to a solitary (like you and me) we have no conflict with someone else in our sacred space, for this reason i chose my own patron/matron. and funny enough for reasons too numerous to go into here i chose my mother and my grandfather. both deceased. both the epitomy of what i believe the archtypes of god and goddess are. so to them i pray, to them i worship the unity of family and grandpa is my father god and my mom is my mother goddess. it works wonderous for me. i give you free riegn friend, let down the inhibitions others like to impose, step out of the box, create, love and enjoy YOUR beliefs. as i have found out from being catholic, sharing someone elses beliefs that i do not agree with is mundane and pathetic. hope this helps
