You have learned a great lesson -- to read everything in your prescription packet. Doctors forget often, sometimes assume you know already, or just don't have time to explain anything. You have to be your own advocate.

You are able to get pregnant up to the third month on the pill. Always use other protection if you are not married. Young women get cervical cancer from unprotected sex with someone who has been exposed to genital warts. The warts don't even have to be visible on a male AND you can still use a condom and still get these cancer-causing warts. Yes, if caught early through a pap smear, one can survive with treatment, but women still die at a very young age (30's) from cervical cancer not caught early enough. Always have paps and always talk to your doctor until you've asked everything possible.

Also, after four months, go back to the doctor to have your blood pressure checked. The Pill can affect blood pressure and you don't even have to smoke to be subseptible to it.

Oh, and of course, don't smoke or take anti-biotics, and take the Pill. You're also more sensitive to the sun. Read the small print about side effect symptons.

The doctors usually say a month as a precaution but really in about two weeks you are safe...does this mean you are still open to getting pregnant at this point...definentely. But I wouldn't stress too much about it. Wait for your missed period take a test and I am sure you will be fine. Take this as a learning experience though. Oh and for future reference...no antibiotics while on birth control. It makes it not work and you will end up pregnant. I have had two friends get pregnant that way with being on birth control. Also if you have a hard time remembering to take the pill (if that's what you are on) try going to the shot. It's a 3month dose and much easier to remember. Friendly advice : )

hmmm, what type of birth control are you on? are you sure it was a type that takes a month to kick in? normally they have a little pamphlet with the birth control that explains when the pill will take effect...i'm on tri spryntec(generic of orthotricyclen) and if you take the pill the first day of your period, you're protected from that moment on. if you start it the sunday after your period starts, then you are protected after the first 7 days of being on the pill. if you don't have the pamphlet anymore, i suggest looking on the pills website to make sure it takes a month to take effect. also, you can only get pregnant if you were ovulating or really close to ovulation if you aren't covered. this usually happens 14 days after your last period. here is a website that will help you predict whether or not you were ovulating ornear ovulation when you had sex...hope this helps and stay calm!!

Read the package insert that came with your pills. For most types, if you are a "Day 1 starter" you are protected right away and if you are a "Sunday starter" you are protected after taking the pill for at least 7 days. This may not be the case for some types and your doctor should have gone over the package insert with you thoroughly when (s)he prescribed the pill for you. If you don't have the package insert, call the pharmacy where you filled the prescription; they should be able to provide you with this information.

If its not effective for the 1st month of course pregnancy is possible. Even if it was working at the time no birth control (outside of abstinence) is 100%. My friend got pregnant with her son while on birth control. As to what to do about this I'm not sure what to tell you because I'm not sure how the birth control effects your cycle... I would call your Dr and explain what happened and ask when you should be concerned.

Well..... I would start using additional protection and consult with the doctor about weather or not you should continue to take this months supply of birth control. If your not pregnant then do it again the right way.... always with a condom.
