You can purchase an enzymatic cleaner which will neutralize the smell. You will then have to keep the cat away from that area. Cats are creatures of habit. If you don't remove the smell, then he/she will continue to urinate there.
If he/she has made quite a mess, then you can pull up the carpet, take out the padding, clean the subfloor (paint or varnish to seal the smell out of the subfloor), put down new padding, then have the carpet professionally cleaned.
I had this same problem. However my cat continued to urinate on the carpet. So we replaced the carpet with hardwood flooring. That did the trick. Good Luck!!!

NATURE'S MIRACLE.
My cats get mad if I don't clean their litter box quick enough and pee on my clothes. They got the idea from a male cat I used to have who marked EVERYTHING. (He's since found another loving home with less need to spray.) Follow the directions on the bottle, it works perfectly! Any pet store should have it. White bottle with red lettering.
Another example of great results: pet-sitting accident on my BED. (he peed on my bed) I used the Nature's Miracle as instructed and no more smell! This was not long after I gave birth, so you KNOW my nose would've picked up any trace!
Good luck!

well first you go to the store and you ask where the pet section is and then they got cleaner for the carpet and they got some stuff to spray on the carpet so they won't do it again.

First, irradicate the cat. Second, eliminate all traces of said cat's existence. After that, the problem should take care of itself.
I hope this helps!
