Of course the teachers and principles are going to say their school is the safest place. Hearing these words from an "authority figure" gives parents a sense of security. The fact is, they are trying to save their jobs. Here is what they are probably thinking:
1) Bad incidents happen at schools.
2) Parents get concerned and switch kids to private school.
3) Public schools lower in numbers, which in turn lowers the number of teachers needed, (layoffs).
Basically, the teachers want to keep their jobs so of course they're going to support their school. You don't hear people at burger king yelling, "GET AWAY THE BEEF IS BAD!!!" of course not, they'd lose their jobs for bad publicity. The same concept is for teachers. They already have it bad enough with their poor salaries; they don't want to go and mess up the minimal job they have going for them.

That was in the states. Not in the UK. Where i am from and live in. Well, schools are the safest place for kids, they can get shelter there, help etc. You can get that at home but not so much when your parents are really busy etc. Kids at school can also get some advice from the teachers, and mostly, the teachers care about them alot. Thats why people are still saying schools arethe safest place for kids to be. There are like millions in one country and it is not everyday things happen all the time to one school.

I honestly dont think a child is safe anywhere except at home. If the Amish schools are getting shot at then they are definately not safe in school. What is this world coming to?

Think about it this way: Look at the number of kids who are killed or seriously hurt (physically or emotionally) while at school. Then look at the number of kids who are killed or seriously hurt (again, either physically or emotionally) in their own homes or shopping malls or any other place outside of school. Unfortunately, what people are saying is true.
