It was said in a similar question addressed to athiests that this question should be asked, so I'm asking it.

And it's probably in the wrong section, but since the question that spawned this one is also in this section, well...

I celebrated Christmas when I barely knew Christ existed. There was a magical quality to that particular holiday like no other. And, as another person pointed out, archeological and biblical evidence does seem to point to the birth of Christ as occuring some time in August - but there are other evidences that suggest other times.

After becoming a Christian I just kept celebrating the holiday. I've even heard Christians say it's a pagan holiday. But I see something people's attitudes that show improvement in general the closer we get to the day we celebrate Chrstimas.

In all honestly, I celebrate Christmas because I enjoy celebrating it.

So now your turn. Why do you celebrate Christmas?

Since we dont know the date in which Jesus was born this is the day someone whoever it was set aside. They say Jesus was born in the summer months. When I became saved I never thought of Christmas as His birthday or even celebrated it that way. Christmas has become such a sad time anymore. People are so depressed cause they cant buy gifts for there kids, but that is not what Christmas should be. I dont buy gifts except for my mom and step dad, and I dont do that every year. I like Christmas because of how pretty is it. I love to decorate my home in a Country Christmas style. Christmas time should be happy and not this hustle and bustle of trying to buy gifts. If this is the day we set aside for Jesus then why are so many running up credit cards just so your kids can have gifts. Then you spend all next year trying to get out of that debt. Most dont and they continue to run them up, and then they complain.

well... Christianity is an odd mixture of ancient Hebrew mythology and usurped pagan traditions. when Christianity went about undermining indigenous cultures it was easier to convert the natives if you overlaid Christianity onto the existing religious system. pagan deities were morphed into saints and martyrs and pagan holidays were either reviled out of existence or changed with Christian symbolism. Christmas trees started when pagans were disallowed to decorate their deified trees so they carried trees inside their homes to decorate for fear of Christian persecution. Easter eggs, chicks and bunnies are ancient pagan fertility symbols. there are many Christian traditions that have their roots in paganism.

With all honesty, I am not a Christian and I only acknowledge Christmas time so I can continue receiving my parents cool gift of $500 each year. I feel like a dick saying that, but at least its the honest answer.

I think "because I enjoy it" is a very good answer.

Yes, there is an absolute combination of my Christian religion, pagan elements, and secularism.

But ultimately, I like it! I like the singing, the lights, I like the church service and nativity scenes, I like the food, I like spending time with my family, I like giving, I like recieving, I like the Christmas bonus, and I need something festive to get me through the dark, cold , winter.
