This is what the dictionary says which I think is bull:

Characterized by good luck; fortunate.
Enjoying, showing, or marked by pleasure, satisfaction, or joy.
Being especially well-adapted; felicitous: a happy turn of phrase.
Cheerful; willing: happy to help.

Characterized by a spontaneous or obsessive inclination to use something. Often used in combination: trigger-happy.
Enthusiastic about or involved with to a disproportionate degree. Often used in combination: money-happy; clothes-happy.

That doesn't really seem like the best definition, but that might be the most commonly accepted one by societies standards. Really happiness is completely internal, regardless of the circumstances around you. You can have bad drinking water, bad food, but a great family you love and be happy. Is that in the yahoo dictionary's definition? I thought not.

You can't plan happiness. Happiness is the present. Everyone strives for "happiness", they work their guts off, they think they will be happy next year, or next week, or when they have done this or that... take a minute in your day to step back and look around you... people don't even realise when they are happy. You could be walking up the road and the sun is shining on your face and you feel good. Thats happiness, just look around you, simple things that make you feel good inside is what happiness is. Its not guaranteed, its not eternal for anyone, it just comes in snatches, make sure you stop and smell the roses..

I think happiness is accepting that you only feel it sometimes. Know yourself and accept sadness and frustration as part of every day life. Happiness is that overwhelming feeling when somethig goes right, you hava good day, a great night out with friends or family, being somewhere you want to be doing something you want to do. Sadness, anger and frustration only make happiness better when it happens.

Good question... I don't really know... I think happiness might be something that comes from inside ourselves and helps us to help others... without happiness we would all be commiting suicide but I can't really tell you what it is... well maybe it's hope. The hope that things will stay in a fashin that we can control and understand... I think that is as close as I'll get... it's hope
