This is regarding my previous question... people told me to see how much others are charging for the job that I do... well how do I do that? I can't really call up other docs and ask how much they pay their transcriptionists now, can I? Plus, I now live in a different state than the doc's office (I moved a year ago, after four years) and bought eVERYTHING including a new computer to run the system for me to do it over the internet. Sorry if this is confusing... I just need some guidance cause i'd really like to start making more money.

Go to your state or county employment agency. They will have a print out of comparison salary range for every job in the county and the state.

That way - if you live in say Louisiana - you will get a salary range for transcriptionists in Louisiana. That way you will know what is the fair range for your particular employment market.

I know this is unfair, because I am also a medical transcriptionist (25 years). I was making 16 cents a line in Dallas, Texas, and then moved to Wichita Falls, Texas (because of my husband transfering), and the going rate dropped to .13 cents a line - which doesn't sound like much - but it really adds up. However, I have heard that some transcriptionists only make 10 cents a line! So, I went to Texas Workforce.com and looked it up by county and that's when I realized how it really varies by each county and each state.

I wish you well - It's a great career!

You have a computer. Or at least, you have access to one. Go to http://www.google.com and put in "medical transcriptionist salaries." You will find the answer to any question you seek here.
