Yes, and a whole lot more.

The Catholic Church believes that "Only God forgives sin."

When a penitent person asks God for forgiveness, his (or her) sins are immediately forgiven.

Catholics also believe that when someone sins they not only hurt their relationship with God, they also injure the entire church, the body of Christ.

The Sacrament of Penance and Reconciliation with a priest ordained in the name Jesus Christ not only reconciles the sinner to God but with the entire church, including you and me.

With love in Christ.

Not exactly.

Whatever is said in the confessional is protected by the seal of confession. It cannot be repeated, even if you confess an absolutely terrible crime. I am not sure if a therapist can protect such information.

But one thing you can get in confession that you cannot get from therapy is forgiveness of sins.

No, if you report that you have molested a child a psychiatrist will report you to the police. A priest will not do this if another priest confesses this, he will be forgiven and it will be forgotten.

yeah, kinda. except that instead of analysis and therapy you're given absolution and instead of meds you're given so many Hail Marys and Our Fathers to say on your rosary.

PS. I'm not Catholic anymore but it's untrue that all Catholic priests are pedophiles. that would be like saying all Republican Congressmen are pedophiles.
