I have a 2004 3.9l v6 Mustang. BOO
they are way too underpowered for a 3.9l engine.
it should be closer to 300 not 200

for cheap... a full exhaust.. not meinikee.... has to be the right setup otherwise you may lose power.. research it and ask hobiest

that can give you an honest 12 bhp

also, you can see if there is a performance chip for your car.. on a naturally aspirated engine maybe 8 bhp on a turbo engine.... 50 bhp

it remaps your ignition curve within the vehicles capabilities safely

again research it

cold air intake is debatable but it will sound cool and might give you 1-2 bhp

that's is as far as cheap.

good luck

reasearch.. don't buy something later to find out it wasn't the best choice

Not too shabby considering the old 5.0 mustangs only made 180 hp in the early 90's. The japanese engines can rev higher, because they're lighter, and rpm is a huge factor in hp numbers, thats why every minivan coming out of japan has you beat on the 1320.

Anyhow back to your question, you want a lot of power real quick add a nitrous kit. You want reliable power get a V8 and a summit catalog. 300 hp isnt too far away with a good bottom end and some bolt ons.

Not the answer you want to hear, but it's correct. Sell the pig and buy a V8. You bought the economy model, not the performance model. You'll spend more trying to make the 6 act like an 8 that you would just buying the 8. Plus, but starting with the stronger engine, you'll be able to squeeze more out of it later if you choose to spend some more later.

First thing make sure it's tuned up correctly. Make sure your tires are properly inflated. A switch to synthetic lubes (engine oil, transmission, differential, etc.) is good for a couple of extra ponies. Cut all the weight you can out of your car anything you don't need leave home. After that I would suggest a cold air intake system, an after-cat exhaust, under-drive pulleys in that order. Once you've done these basic ad-ons you are beyond the realm of inexpensive performance and would need to look into a supercharger, turbo or NOS.

Cold air and exhaust will produce some results but switch out your rearend gears to something higher, 3.73s are a decent choice and you will feel a big difference in acceleration there is no such thing as cheap horsepower. By the way Early 90's 5.0 had 225 horsepower and 300ft/lbs of torque.

Depends how much money you want to spend. An exhaust and a cold--air intake for starters might give you another 30 horse. You can get new cams or a header too but that can get expensive try searching for a Mustang Owners Forum

You CAN'T get alot of hp for little money and do it right...you don't want some p.o.s. that looks like crap and is junk. if you are going to work on you car do it slow and do it right, trust me it will work out better in the long run... It's a 4.0 V6 what do you want, why didn't you get a GT?

Horsepower dosn't really matter that much. Worry about your tourqe instead. Thats what really counts.
