Call the principal and don't stop with him if you do not get satisfaction. Go to the press. Did she have meningitis? School officials need to understand that the parent has the final say when it comes to the child's health. I'd call a lawyer. This makes me so mad because when my son was in second grade he had to pee AFTER the teacher made the whole class go pee. He couldn't pee on cue, so she wouldn't let him go all day. I took it as far as I had to for satisfaction and told both my kids that if they have to go, and are not allowed, they have my permission to get up and go anyway. I would stand with them. Give your daughter permission to leave whenever she feels ill and they won't allow her. I hope she is doing ok. That was dangerous! Don't let this go! Kids have rights too!

Call and talk to her teacher. They usually are available to take phone calls after the kids get out of school or when their class is in P.E. or something- if its too late today, definatley call her tommorrow. You have the right to know what happened. I would tell her how your daughter was when she got home and that she said she told her she didn't feel good and you want to know why she wasn't sent to the nurse and why you weren't called. If your not satisfied w/ her answer talk to the principle - you may have to make an appointment. No child should have to go through the day feeling like that w/ out being cared for or checked out by the nurse. You sent her to school trusting that she would be cared for properly and they failed to do their job and you have a right to get some answers. But make sure you give them a chance to tell their side before you go off on them.

The "school" wouldn't have called if the teacher never sent her to the clinic. If she'd gone to the clinic, the nurse would have called you to come pick her up. In this case... the teacher is who failed your child.
I would e-mail the teacher, the school nurse, the principal and assistant principal. Have it read something like this:
"On Monday, September 25, my daughter reports that she told her teacher, Mrs. Smith, that her head and neck hurt and she did not feel well before lunch time. She was never sent to the clinic. When she arrived home from school that day on the bus, her lips were blistering and her face was clearly quite red. Her temperature was 104. I took her to the hospital and it was discovered that she had (list diagnosis.)
I am not comfortable with the fact that while my daughter reported not feeling well, she was not sent to the clinic where the nurse could have evaluated her for potential illness. I am certain, if she'd gone to the clinic with a fever and these symptoms, I would have been called to pick her up so we could visit her primary care physician.
Please clarify for me the school's policy on student report of illness so that we might avoid a repeat of this situation in the future. In the meantime, I must insist, if my child reports to her teacher that she is not feeling well, that she be sent immediately to the clinic for evaluation.
Thank you very much,

couple of questions...
first, has she faked illness before? if she has done so, that might very well be why the staff choose to ignore her hoping that she would make a miraculous recovery and make it through the rest of the day.
i am not condoning their actions, but with some of todays kids (AND THEIR PARENTS) i can understand it.
i would call the teacher first and hear what she has to say. DO NOT be accusatory. after you do hear her side of it, you can gently and kindly inform her of her mistake. request that you do be contacted if she complains of being ill so you can evaluate whether she needs to leave school or not. if you are not satisfied with the teacher's response - then go to the principal. next up is the administration.
make your expectations clear. you must keep your temper and act rather than react. going off half ****** is only going to force them to dismiss your words and ignore you. they deal enough with overprotective mothers and you do not want to be mistaken for one.
(WOW NURSES AND CLINIC AREAS IN SCHOOLS? YA ALL MUST HAVE ALOT MORE TAX DOLLARS THAN ANY STATE I'VE EVER LIVED IN! MOST SCHOOLS HAVE A BED LOCATED IN THE TEACHER'S AIDE'S BACK OFFICE IN CASE THEY CANNOT REACH A PARENT OR TO HAVE A CHILD LIE DOWN FOR A FEW MOMENTS. THEY ARE NOT EQUIPPED TO "DIAGNOSE" YOUR CHILD. THEY TAKE A QUICK LOOK AT THE CHILD AND TRY TO GET THEM TO GO BACK TO CLASS IF THE CHILD DOES NOT LOOK LIKE THEY ARE REALLY ILL. IF THE CHILD PERSISTS IN COMPLAINING OF NOT FEELING WELL - THEN, THEY CALL THE PARENTS)

Obviously an oversight at the school....In writing, not e-mail, send a letter to the school indicating what your concerns are. At that point give instructions to the school that if your daughter/children ever indicate that they are not well, they are to contact you immediately, without question and without hesitation. Under no circumstances will you tolerate this type of none responsible behavior from those guiding and educating your children.

You need to call the school and complain to the principal as well as the nurse and follow up with the Superident of the district. This is serious, your daughter could have lost conciousness at any time. I would also have a free consultation with a lawyer. Sorry you had to experience this and I hope your daughter is doing well!!
Best Wishes!

Get a diagnosis from the doctor and call your lawer. Obviously, a 104 degree fever is serious. The school is responsible and needs to be held responsible for their actions.

Call the principal tomorrow morning and demand to know why you were not informed!
If you are not given an apology by the teacher to whom your daughter complained about her head and neck, call the Superintendent's office and report this situation.
We send our children to school and expect the teachers and staff to put our children's health and safety first.
When they are sick, we expect to be informed. If they are not feeling well, they should at least be sent to the school nurse.

Write a letter to everyone;the headmaster, the board of governers, the local education authority, your local mp(thinks that your congressman or something in the US), local paper and expose this to all! Don't sue though I thing that's just wrong and everyone does it now, just because they can. I mean you want the best education for your child! How can schools, police, fire, ambulance etc. get better if their funds are constantly being dwindled down by individuals who just want a bit of quick cash?
