Scientists are continuing their search for these genes, using advanced genetic analytic methods and large samples of families affected by the illness. The researchers are hopeful that identification of susceptibility genes for bipolar disorder, and the brain proteins they code for, will make it possible to develop better treatments and preventive interventions targeted at the underlying illness process.

Yes. There is a hereditary link for bipolar disorder but it does not mean that everyone with bipolar disorder will have children that are bipolar it just increases the chances.

It is very possible genetically. I have two sons by a bipolar ex and they are your everyday, normal, goofy, teenagers. I make sure they understand if there are any problems they need to talk to someone.

I say yes. I have a daughter with bi-ploar and mental illness runs heavily along her dad side of the family. I don't have it but do suffer from depression. So I say yes.

I haven't seen anything scientifically connecting the two but I believe it can be passed. If blue eyes and green eyes can be passed why can't a disease be passed like ovarian cancer... that's hereditary. I think you can pass bi-polar disease.

No I don't think it is...BUT...children learn what they see from their parents...so you need to make sure you if you have it to make sure you are getting the help you need because if can pass on your attitude and bad habits to your kids without knowing.

yes, They have found that bipolar does tend to be heriditary.
