LaLa has it almost right, except that its not coz of the apendix.

After you eat, blood is diverted to the stomach to aid digestion, this means that the arms and legs may suffer a shortage of blood while digestion is happening. The decrease in blood supply to the muscles could cause weakness and cramp (No its not a myth, it really can happen!) because the blood carries oxygen to the muscle (for energy production and strength) and carries waste products away (lactic acid is produced as a by product of energy and this is what causes the muscle cramp if it builds up). So best wait about an hour before swimming, no need to wait to shower though :D

Your body is busy digesting your food. And if you don't wait, this will cause muscular cramps due to the lack of laticity in them. To get around this 30 minute rule, you can stretch very well before returning to swim.

Yes, you wait 30 min before swimming because it can cause stomach cramps.. I have not heard of the shower one, though. I think the shower is pretty safe. Your whole abdomen is not completely submerged in water in the shower in contrast to a pool. Water pressure and absorption affects the digestive muscles in abdomen which could cause you to crap.

have you ever listened in school? you can get really bad cramps if you get into water right after eating. it can cause you to lose balance in the shower and could drown if you are in a pool or creek. need to spend some time in health class or something. good luck

It is not a myth! Okay, showering is, but you shouldn't exercise after you eat because your food might get into your appendix (side of your intestines) and you might have appendicidus! When you do, it'll hurt really, really bad and you have to go to the hospital for surgery to cut it off, however it will not affect your daily life. My aunt had appencidus. And if you don't go to the hospital immediately, you could die!!!! So DON'T EXERCISE VIGOROUSLY AFTER EATING!!!!

it's mostly for swimming, or any exercise, because after you eat, all of your blood is going to your stomach to help digestion, therefore, if you start exercising, that's going to pull the blood away from your stomach, mess up your digestion and give you cramps not to mention a bad workout.

Not showering, swimming. They say you can get a cramp, but mostly it is just uncomfortable.

because the blood which should be available around your stomach for the food to digest flows outward towards the skin surface resulting in improper digestion which can cause cramps stomach problems
