Apart from the obvious things;

Deal with any problems that could be causing break-outs, for example if you are a woman then often hormonal imbalance can be the cause, the best and easiest way to address this is to take evening primrose oil or black cohosh daily.

Good diet with lots of fresh fruit and vegetables, preferably raw, avoiding processed foods that would contribute to toxins in your body, also drink a lot of water.

Good skincare routine, this includes washing twice a day, exfoliating a couple of times a day, using a face mask once every week to two weeks, a steam when needed, natural means to deal with break-outs such as witch hazel gel.
Don't just wash your face but also use something like a toner after you wash as washing does not always get rid of all the dirt from your face, follow with a good moisturiser that has a high SPF factor to protect your skin.
Insure your towels and face cloths are cleaned often and only used by yourself; also make sure anything else that touches your face such as pillow cases are clean.

I'd highly recommend using Oil Cleansing Method.

Most people start with a 50:50 mix of Extra Virgin Olive Oil : Castor Oil, EVOO is moisturizing where as Castor Oil is cleansing – some people will use other oils (I personally use nothing but Jojoba oil) and will change the mix to perhaps 75:25 or 25:75 depending on their skin type (i.e. if your skin is dry you would use more EVOO to moisturize), and some will also add essential oils such as lavender or tea tree oil (both help prevent and treat spots) – one advantage of OCM is that it is totally customisable so if your skin type changes, as it does very often, you can change the mix to suit your skin.

You put the oil onto your face, then take a facecloth that has been into hot water and rung out and put the facecloth onto your face, leave the facecloth on your face for a minute so it is similar to steaming your face to open up your pores, then wipe off the oil – follow with a toner such as Rosewater to help clean off any small excess oil and tighten your pores after they have been opened by the heat of the facecloth.

Reason it works is because it does not strip your skin of it's natural oils – when you wash your face with washes or soap it strips the natural oils that help keep your skin healthy and help keep your pores clean, so your skin is not only not as healthy as it should be but your skin also produces a load more oil to make up for all it has lost. Most washes contain chemicals harmful to your body, as your body gets rid of toxins through the skin so adding toxins via the skin can contribute significantly to your skins health.

Reason for OCM being so good is not only is it VERY good for your skin, but it is also very customisable, cheap, easy to get a hold of, easy to use, does not support animal testing (as many commercial products do) and does not contain a load of toxic chemicals (as many commercial products do).

Definately has nothing to do with what you eat unless you have rosacea. Drink penty of water though. Exercising also helps get rid of toxins in the body. I have flare ups all the time and I am on antiobiotics plus steriod cream to help out but if you only have minor blemishes, just keep your skin hydrated with drinking water, use hypoalergetic lotions, and stay out of the sun.

Over and above looking after your self (good food, sleep and exercise) Proactive is amazing. I had problems for years and Proactive cleared it right up. Not sure if its in OZ yet but if so... order it. Go to proactive.com to find out.

I suggested it to a number of friends here in the USA and they all swear by it too. I wish I had tried it earlier (was put off by the infomercials... cause lets face it... normally infomercial stuff is junk).

1) never eat any food that makes your skin break out.

2) always use a daily moisturizer with SPF 15 at least because you never want to have sunspots on your face.

3) always wash your face with soap; then apply the soap in a circular motion for a better coat all over your face.

4) when you have finished washing your face, you pat your face dry with a towel. do not rub the towel hard over your face.

note: always wash your face at then end of your the day. your face will stay clear of any dust or dirt before sleeping. never wash your face after you wake up because your skin's natural moisturizer will be taken away. keep all the moisture you can receive in your skin because your skin dries as you age.

Use Neutrogena's 'Clearsil'. Truly brilliant: just like the packet says your face is spot and blackhead clear in just three days. Another way is to get an ice cube and stick it to your spots. This reduces the inflammation, kills bacteria and gets rid of their redness.
