2) get a credit card, low limit $500

Every major city has a credit counselling program available that can help you. Because the Canadian banking industry is heavily concentrated, they aren't afraid to NOT work with the counsellors.

You need to set up an appointment and talk to the counsellors about your issues. They will ask questions about your income, living habits, expenses, etc.
