I just threw a baby shower this last weekend for my sister and sister-in-law. We had a flat cake, we went to a Costco or Sam's Club and got trail mix (with little cups) crackers with cheese and ham/turkey. It was good. We also made these little pasifiers from life savers and jelly beans. (If you want to know how to make them, e-mail me) they were a hit.

WOW with that many people you will need help from both of them. I threw a baby shower for my sister, and told everyone to RSVP on the invitations, so I would know how much food to get, it doesn't work!!! people who said they were coming did not come others just showed up.
I had people wear name tags, because I didn't know hardly anyone from my brother-in-laws family, that really helped.
As for food, make a cheese ball, and have crackers. I guess it depends on what a reasonable cost is for you. 60 people get expensive no matter how cheap things are.
Good Luck!! I'm sure you'll be a great hostess!!

You should include both sides of the family. That way there is more help.
Some shower foods: Fruit and veggie tray with dip, shower cake, ask close family members to bring a dessert, fruit punch, tea and coffee, buns with sandwich meat and some fixings, mini sandwich's (egg salad, and tuna) cut the crust off and cut them in small triangles., cheese tray, pickle tray, cracker tray.
If you get everyone to help it should be inexpensive. Finger foods are best. Don't mess with hot dishes. Best of luck! Have fun at the shower!!!

60 people is ALOT for a baby shower. It could get very costy but at least the mother will get alot that her baby needs. I'm not that much of an expert on baby showers but I think it would be nice if you involved both the mother and the mother in law, hopefully the two get along. Afterall, they both will be grandmothers.

Good luck with everything!

At my last baby shower (which was 5 years ago *lol*), we had cut chicken salad sandwiches, chips and pretzels, fruit, punch, cake squares, cut veggies with ranch dip, cold cut and cheese platters. I have another baby shower coming up and it's going to be a surprise so I have no clue what they are doing. However, I know that both my in laws and my mom are in on it together.

Both families should help don't leave one or the other out, it makes them both feel good that they can come together on this.
Go to Costco or Sam's club and get the deli trays and veggie tray's, they feed alot and are not that expensive or you can have a Pot Luck that always works well to and others love to bring something they make. Great recipe trade day to.

you can do a vegetable tray with dip, i had a bean dip at mine you take refried beans, guacamole(optional), sour cream, tomatoes, olives(optional) and shredded cheese and layer it, eat with corn chips, also chips and dip, maybe finger sandwiches, assorted cookies, and cake both the mother in law and mother can help if they would like, games can be found if you search google baby shower games...

Baby showers are usually hosted by someone other than the mother-to-be. Anyone can help the host.
