is it supposed to go on your ring finger on your left hand just as if you guys were engaged?

It's suppose to be on the finger you show to someone who have offended you so that you don't show it to the one who gave you the ring.

A promise ring is supposed to go on the wedding finger. Just like if you were engaged.
