I would like 2 attend the black college tour. I live in southern california and the tour cost 1,000+ 2 go. Does anyone have any ideas on how 2 earn that much money so I can go on this tour. I really want 2 go 2 Howard university but I would like 2 c if it is in a safe area and if the campus is nice with a friendly atmosphere first.

Yeah... so I don't know what the "Black College Tour" is but I do know this: You don't need $1000+ to visit colleges. First, you shouldn't visit more than 5 colleges especially if you are not planning to apply to all of them. Second, you should visit the schools you really want to get into and want to meet students and admissions officials to leave a good impression and have them remember you when they read your application. If you want to go to Howard, pay the plane ticket (somewhere around $400), find out if they have a prospective students tour this fall. Some schools have free hosting events where they let you stay with other students for one to three nights and even get free meals.
Third, don't limit yourself to "Black Colleges". The essential is to broaden your horizons and get the money to go to a school you can grow. Find a place with a strong diverse student body (black, international...) that will like having someone like you to add to their campus diversity. If you're a woman, black and going into a science/engineering field, they'll do anything to have you there.
The way I see it, no one should be piling on expenses without having been accepted to a school.
Good luck!

Girl... I can give you that information. I've visited Howards campus many times. The first thing you'll love is being around so many educated young black folks. Then there's the campus. As far as safe is concerned, its right in the center of the city. There's so much to do around you... its just like any other big city. Just watch your back and be careful walking around alone at night. Its pretty safe with security and campus police walking around 24-7. Good Luck girl... I hope you achieve your goal... (and I'll tell you how I raised money to finish college... valet. That job made me sooooo much money in such a short time.)
