I'm a new nursing mother, my daughter is 7months old. She first bit me awhile ago and out of pure shock I tapped her on the forehead (I didn't even mean to). But, even after we both freaked out- she still bites me sometimes! I've tried taking her off when she does it but that doesn't always work because by that time she's already satisfied. I've tried being stern but she just thinks I'm playing and giggles at me! Any advice? My poor nipples can't handle it anymore!

whatever you do. do NOT bite her back. She is too young too even understand why you would do that. That answer is ridiculous. Any doctor would tell you that. The best source would be to get a book called, "What to expect during the first year"
It is the most recoucefull guide ever. They have other books as well such as "What to expect when your expecting" and "what to expect during the toddler years." my wife and I always have refered to these books with numerous questions

Its great to be able to nurse as long as you can - but if you are finding that nothing is working (I know what you mean - my daughter is 2 and still tends to giggle when I tell her off - but I do think a lot of this is embarrassment)....then I would think about weaning her. She has obviously gotten her teeth quite quickly and is intent on using them.
Surely its better that you have had an amazing 7 months of breastmilk (more than I ever managed!) than a stressy and suffering relationship because of the biting. Maybe weaning to a bottle should be considered (if that wouldnt upset and freak you out too much)...it could be the time for it?
Oh and in relation to the biting your wee one back...well - of course most of us have resorted to a wee slap or tap back out of shock or anger - but intentionally biting or hitting is simply violence in order to teach a lesson. It works because it can stop the action 'against you' but its fear driven and ends in a fear response. Sorry - thats just my personal opinion..
You sound like a lovely mum and I hope whatever you decide goes well!!

I'm nursing my daughter who's four months and I've been afraid of the same thing happening when she gets her teeth, especially since she won't drink from a bottle. I've heard you need to take them off the breast and not let them eat for at least a half hour after biting and that is supposed to work. Good luck!

Sounds like her teeth may still be hurting or she is cutting additional teeth. Get her something to teeth. There's a great device that vibrates when kids bite down on it. The vibration is soothing.
Then when she bites you, very matter-of-factly stop the nursing session. I don't recommend you wean her because of this.
You certainly can't effectively punish a 7 month old child by biting her. She won't understand it and begin to mistrust you.

If she bites you and you are holding/nursing her. Put her down. She will start to catch on that she won't get held/fed if she bites. Alot of my friends stopped nursing because of this.

7 months old and still nursing? -- My Goodness. I have 3 children and they were all drinking out of normal cups and eating out of bowls with silverware by the time they were 6 months old. Sounds like you need to quit with the nursing and teach her how to use a cup, (even if it is a sippy cup) and also to start using utensils.

I had the same problem....My daughter did the exact same thing..What i did was before feeding tell her if she bites me that she will get her favorite toy taken away or her favorite item or desserts. You can also put her in time out......Good Luck!

Is she teething? Try some teething ointment on her gums.
