There is a huge difference between spoken word and rap. You should really watch def poetry slam on HBO if you don't understand the difference.

As usual doggie has the best questions. Sofia Baig is amazing, I got to see her at ISNA and wow!

I am not sure if you meant terrorist or terrorized. The truth is that women in Islam are revered. They are not oppressed. In Islam a woman is not required to work the way we are in the US. And if they do work they are not expected to contribute all of their earning to the household, that is their money, they can contribute as they like. They are not expected to be the supporters of the house. This burden belongs to the men. In some country's in the Middle East women do not have the same rights as men but do not confuse an Islamic country ( a country in which the majority of the people are Muslim ) with Islam itself. The fact is that under Islamic law women are more protected, they are not seen or treated as sex objects but instead are treasured and respected by their children and husband.

There is a difference between a muslim woman in the west and muslim women who grow up in muslim countries. She is able to do and say all those things because she is and was raised in Canada but if she was raised in Southi Arabia, Qatar, Iran, Irak, etc. she would be an ignorant and oppressed woman. She is one of the lucky ones because of our government, Thank God for that!!! not Islam.

I think that you are referring to the "rap" "Daughter of the Sand". When this woman speaks of her husband, it seems to me that she does not have one yet. My impression is that she is living at home with her parents. She seems to be angry at people who would have a prejudiced attitude towards her according to stereotyped beliefs because she is a Muslim and wears hijab.

Some Muslim women have loving husbands and some have controling husbands. This is true of other cultures and religions as well as Islam. As regards education, in America, Muslim women are required to attend school until they are 16 years old. They may attend college after that. Again it depends on the family whether they will encourage their daughter to get a university degree or get married. In some Muslim countries, women may not attend school even in the elementary grades. It depends on the country and family.

Some Muslim women in some countries are in fact oppressed, but that is due to their culture, not their religion. And yes, there have been Musim women terrorists.

PS I don't go to most links. I don't trust them. Sorry.
