i think in each species there are dog that just dont get it. but they love life more than any other because ever thing makes them happy. my sister had 2 dogs one was female the mother and one male the son. the female was so smart the son was not and he was the only one out of the litter that was that way. but he loved life more than any dog i have ever seen. and funny on my he did the dumbest thing and just grin at you like that was fun should i do it again. you have to take dogs the way the come. but most boxer the big ones i find are more stupid.

The dog IS a species (specie, to be more precise.)
The dumbest canine BREED (imo) is the Irish Setter, bless their hearts, lol. Sweet as can be...but dumb as a box of rocks.
JRT's easily rival Border collies in intellect, however. (I have a BC rescue myself....and yes, they are quite clever....but have treated many astoundingly intelligent JRT's over the years.)

I have always heard a Dalmatian is so stupid he gets lost at the end of his leash, but dogs are usually only as stupid as their owners who cant or wont take the time to train them. A wise doctor I used to work for said " a hercky jerky pet usually has a hercky jerky owner."

I had an Irish Setter who was pretty dumb. Beautiful, but dumb as a stump. We adored him.
