braided hairstyle...?

I am asian and my hair's really really straight but I always wanted my hair braided...the way black girls do...with extensions and stuff. Some of my black girlfriends have their hair braided and they looked so awesome!!! Then a friend told me that braiding can damage my real hair and better not do it...is that true? Also, will other people think I am looking stupid for having black girls' hairstyle - since I am asian?

You can definitely get your hair braided. I went to hair school with a few asian girls and for our in school hair show we gave on girl cornrows. As long as you go to someone who know what they are doing and won't pull and yank on your hair then braiding will not damage your hair. It's the person that damages your hair, not the braids.
Truthfully, the way cultures are mixing these days and depending on where you live, I don't think anyone would think you were stupid for having your hair braided. Look at Kimora Lee Simmons and Russell Simmons. He embraced her religion and she embraced his style.

Well i have had braids before, and it never damaged my hair. but everyone is different i guess.

If you want the braids, get them, and own it! work it!! Dont worry about what people think about you!! If you get them, be confident, and you will be fine. If you walk around like something is wrong with you having braids, then people will look at you like your stupid. And having braids doesnt have to be a black thing, it doesnt matter what you are. dont let the opinion of others have an effect how you feel, be strong, be confident, be beautiful, be you!. . . Yes, braiding can damage your hair. But don't keep them in too long and do take care of them. I had my hair braided several times and my hair was fine. The way I did it was to make sure that when they did my temple that it was not too tight and didn't pull my hair out. Of course I use the style of loose braids though and only keep them for a couple of months or so. It will not look stupid. Did Bo Derek look bad with cornrows. Majority of people loved it. Does it look bad when other ethnic have the Farrah Fawcett Flip in theirs. Just don't get hair style and start acting like a Black person. Go to the Beauty Supple Store and get the hair type that fits your hair texture and color. U should look great and as long as u r being yourself then its fine to get any hair style.

The braiding process is perceived to be a social art. In the traditional sense, it really is. It will always take time for women to braid their hair. This is the sense of it. They do cute hairstyles with braids while socializing with others. This is how hair was done before. This is an idea originating from elders. Yes braiding your hair can cause damage, like breakage at the base of the braid.

Other than that, i say go for it. Braid are cute and youthful and i wouldn't limit braids to just African Americans.... For some white girls yes, but not on an Asian girl.... i think it would be cute depending upon how small/large the braids are. (i wouldn't recommend tiny or really small ones though)

braids damage any hair. weather the person is black, asian, blue green or purple. the constant pulling on anybody's hair is damaging. now, i think that asian women really look good with short hair. whatever you decide, screw what other people are going to think. if we all lived like that, diversity and style wouldn't even exsist. be true to you.

Nicely I'm a boy but I consider on us boys, short hair will be always better. Long hair doesn't ALWAYS show a sign of dominance. A person see most other guys with long hair that doesn't look like they will can fight. For example there will be a boy in my school together with very long blonde hair.
