Avoid anything with heat - straighteners, hair dryers etc.
Use a mositurising conditioner - one that doesn't contain silicon which can seal moisture out of your hair.
Cut down on the number of times a week that you wash your hair.
Don't brush or comb your hair when it's wet. Use a good wide tooth comb when it's dry - unless you have curls, in which case brush it before you have a shower to get rid of any tangles, and only finger comb after.
Avoid dying your hair - especially lightening it.
Avoid perming it too.
Trim any split ends that you see - trimming tht individual hairs is called dusting, and can stops the split from travelling up the hair, and prevents tangles which can lead to breakage.
Avoid using hair ties with the metal joiner.

Once the split ends are split...there's basically nothing you can do about it. No magic shampoo can "repair" the torn ends and so all there is to do is trim them. It doesn't have to be drastic...most of the time people do not even notice because usually the trim doesn't have to take off half of your hair-length. I do about an inch mayybe 2. I have long hair as well.

Permanents weaken the hair shaft and cause this to happen.
Also...non plastic rollers.
Over processing Don't blow dry if possible.
Use mouse and dont' wash every day. Use cream rinse when washing it. Warm water not hot..
Don't use elastic bands (get covered ones)
Use a natural bristle hair brush.
Hot oil treatments if it is dry
And, yes...keep ends trimmed ...hair grown a half inch a month.
You can afford a trim every other month.
I had split ends for years..so I kept it short to prevent that....but no more. got long hair and no spilt ends. But I get it trimmed twice a year anyway for healthier hair.

Well, sorry to tell you , but you have to trim your ends. My hair is short-- and it hurts to cut them- but you have to. Theres no conditioning split ends. THey are DEAD and need to be cut off. I love how bouncy and healthy my hair looks after I cut my ends. You need to TRIM THEM.. and then use a weekly deep conditioner. Having split ends makes you hair look bad.. the ends are all frizzed up and ugly.

henna will prevent split ends if you put it in your hair every six weeks for 1 hour. it will also colour your hair a dark reddish brown.
john freda shine shock glosser will banish split ends but it won't be permanent and the best way to get rid of split ends is to go to your hairdresser and get a little bit of your hair trimmed.
take care of your hair. then you won't have any

the only way to prevent this from happening is to cut the split ends off regularily! there is no way around it...cut it at least twice a year. trust me, products don't help much. hair grows back!

Split ends will happen, they can't be prevented. but cured with a trim (even though you said you didn't want one)

Try using styling products with added shine enhancers, such as silicone. They will give your hair sheen and help protect each strand against the damage of heated styling tools, such as blow driers and flat irons.
