I understand its a unpopular war by media standards, but for the democrats to pull a deserter into agenda wars is not right, it shows more strongly it sides with an unstable america. We need to work on compromise and fixing within not promote illegal judgement with people who sign up and then instead of trying to legally back out and run away, he just ran to another country and hurt his brother in arms....Court martial should be the least of his worries, I commend him on his purple heart, but desertion is a cowardess move......your views..? I would love to here intelegent responses from all sides but we know what to expect.....

What bothers me most about this is, that a lot of soldiers , wounded soldiers, fight to get back into Iraq to do what they can to serve this country by helping those in need, so much good has been done, fresh water, fresh food, roads and new homes.......among some of that, voting for the first time.........

I read about this clown who deserted his counrtry and his commrades. He stated that he didn't want to go over for a secomd tour becaue now he doesn't support the war. Oddly enough he came to that realization AFTER he received his orders to deploy.
In the article he had the gall to say he hopes the Army doesn't court-martial him (or send his a** to prision) and that the Army will just let him go along his merry way. His attorney says that he spoke with an Army officer and that his client will be released in 5 days and he too thinks the Army will not court-martial this .....person. And yes, I know that he served in Iraq and was wounded. But during my 18 months in Iraq I met dozen of soldiers on their second tour and many had been wouunded....they didn't run away and disgrace themselves. If this guy is just kickedout with a dishonorable discharge just imagine the impact on the moral of our troops. Personally Idon't think it will demoralizethem just piss them off and go visit him on their next R&R.
And the kicker... This guy (his name is Anderson) didn't return home to face the music as he claims or to try and redeem his act of cowardice. The news article pointed out that he returned back to the US because he was refused a Canadian government work permit and couldn't get a job....ever. It was his fault because he failed to complete the required paper in time to get the permit. Gee what shock!
Guess what kind of job he can get with a dishonorable discharge? Personally I would like the Army to give him an all expenses paid 5 year vacation at FT. Leavenworth.
And to TOM COLLINS....this Anderson person didn't go AWOL as you claim. He is officially classified and will be tried as a deserter. If you return within 30 days of going UA then it is considered AWOL. Starting at day 31 it is considered desertion. And this guy was hiding out in Canada for nearly 2 years.

He seems to like Canada. Perhaps he should just stay there. Whats so great about a country in an "illegal" war that he would come back? I don't understand that. If we are so evil why come back? I thought the majority of the democrats voted for this war. How is it illegal? It was voted on and every one had the same info as George Bush. If they had the same stuff how is it only Bush lied? I have a lot of questions. Not many answers. Well I hear Canada is nice this time of year (or any time of year if your running from the war) and I think he should just stay there. He seems happy enough there. What so great about an evil empire like the US that he would come back? I like my evil empire, leave it alone. Every one wants the american dream. No one wants to stand up for it. No one wants to fight for it. Let him have the Canadian dream instead. By the way what is the Canadian dream? Whats the Iraqi dream? Whats the soviet dream? Why is it that only the americans have a dream? Why is it that only in america can it happen? Why is it that people are not trying to sneak into Canada, or Germany, or France, or Iraq by the thousands every night?
Why would he accept a purple heart as a result of action in an illegal war in Iraq where he commit sins? Whats up with that?
My solution is this. We take the purple heart back, we take his citizenship back, and he lives a long happy life in canada where he will not be in a position to volunteer to fight in any illegal wars to defend the country. He may spend the rest of his life chasing the Canadian dream. Have a great life. Don't come back. Of all the thousands of illegal imigrants that will cross the border tonight, I suspect several will volunteer for military service. I vote we give your citizenship to one of them. I'm ok with that. If they are willing to stand up for something let them have the rewards. Citizenship in this country is not given. Its a previlage and a responsibility. Let some one who has earned it have it. Let some one who has shunned it leave it.

They knew what they were getting into when they signed. Stuff like this makes me sick. I agree 100% when you said "desertion is a cowardess move". I don't know about commending him for his purple heart. Anyone can get hurt in combat. Generl Patton said it best, "Nobody ever won a war by dying for his country".

i feel he should go to jail. i consider deserting ones country is treason, if you're not w/ us you're against us. he should be punished. i agree w/ him not there helping it but others in harms way. and again he knew what he was getting into when he enlist. to me he is considered the enemy. the only reason he came back is because his lawyer messed up the paper work to have him safe there ( sorry can't think of the word ) . he had to come back. he is a f&^%*&^ traitor

The mental heath help he asked for was not given. It is not like he never went to combat. I think this guy has more problems than meet the eye. I saw enough during my 20 plus years of service to know he is one confused and screwed up fellow. Hope the VA gives him the help he needs.

he is not going to get awarded anything. he is a deserter and that it that. he will more than likely be charged for missing movement stripped of all rank what little he has and then sent to leavenworth. but i do feel that he should have seen someone about his nightmares.

Those kids going to war think of it as a video game. Even after their personality is broken down to pieces during trainings and they become brainless killers, the bloody scenes stay in their minds forever. I met some American vets years ago and I felt so sorry about their unfortunate destiny. This war machine insanity must be stopped no matter who does it, democrat or republican.

For him to run in combat and leave his comrades to be wounded or die honorably then he should be executed in the field by his peers and left for the vultures to feast on. He doesn't deserve a military burial or even have his remains to be sent home at taxpayer expense. Leave his a ss to rot in the streets and pour lyme on him so he doesn't stink for long.
