I am thinking of buying both my kids one of those hand held vacuums for small jobs that they can use in their rooms for little messes instead of dragging the big one out. This would be a small Christmas Gift.

Good Idea or Bad, whats your opinion?

My kids are ten and two.

Its a small gift just in general but not an actual gift gift, just a thought.

Good idea!!! I wish I had thought of something so brilliant! My two boys are little piglets and this will sure make it easier on everyone. Christmas gift, sure why not? I used to get socks for Christmas, so why would a personal vacuum be a bad gift! Great way to teach them to have additional responsibilities.

I think this is a good idea. Teaching children to clean up after themselves is important. Also it gives them a sense of autonomony and a sense of accomplishment. I'm not sure if Christmas would be the best time to give it to them though. How about just make it an everyday kind of gift. I loved getting gifts for no reason.

Good Idea. But probably not so much a christmas gift maybe give it to them before christmas but i would suggest you just buy one to keep in there part of the home instead of them having there own. That would be better., but no not a christmas gift.

Good idea in general, bad idea for a gift. I'd just get them for your kids to have, but I would go with something fun or educational (preferably both) for Christmas gifts.

It's a good idea to have one for each of the kids, but it shouldn't be a Christmas gift! You should get them and then offer small rewards for when they use them, but don't push it and make it a gift.

Christmas is for things you WANT not need.

underwear and sox are also crappy "gifts". These are things your child needs and that is definitely a no-no.

Just get them now, so what if there is less to open on Christmas morning, most kids get too dam much crap anyway.

I forgot to add: This in NO way whatsoever will encourage them to keep their rooms clean. No way, not gonna happen.

Not good, but great! In fact, it's so good, don't wait until Christmas. Get them now, but not as a gift, but rather a chore. I told my kids (both under 10 y.o.) that the maid quit! I meant it. I work too hard to have to come home and clean up their mess and filth. I've made them take responsibility for their spaces and in only a few months they have gotten much better. Children need responsibility. It's all in how WE train them!

You've given me a great idea. I'm going to get one for them and now they can clean up their crumbs and little papers, too! And for those who say they won't use it...It's a little different in my household. I set the rules and they respect my authority. It's not cruel; it's called discipline.

well they do have those little fake vaccums that light up and throw little beads around inside, and lawn mowers that spit out bubbles.. so I think if that interests kids then buying them just a small one to have would be a good idea.. especially if they know that keeping their room clean is a chore it would be so much easier this way and they would probably use it more.. I think its a really good idea!

I think it's great! Little ones love to help, they'll feel so important for being "big enough" to help mommy! I'm getting my 2 year old play vacuums for Christmas, I'm hoping they will stop trying to ride on the real one!

I loved the dustbuster when I was a kid and totally would have used one in my own room. I would not have been happy with it as a Christmas gift, though!
