None of the popes that I know where of Jewish descent. Besides Peter was married.

Peter was married as Jesus healed his mother-in-law. Wasn't it Paul who became the apostle to preach the gospel to the gentiles? Also it is written in revelation 3-9 "behold I will make them of the synagogue of satan which say they are Jews and are not." By believing like Peter who said "Thou art the Christ, the son of the living God." we who believe are adopted into the family of Israel? As we have the same faith as Abraham who believed God and it was reckoned unto him as righteous?

they are not descendants of Peter. The catholic church was not even formed until 200+ years after Peter's death.

When someone (gentile) becomes a child of God through Confessing Jesus (Jewish) Christ their Lord & believe in ones heart the atonement & resurrection. This is spiritual rebirth. Through faith in Christ. We are then children of God by adoption. Inheriting the blessings of Abraham. Jesus is Jewish.

The Catholic has some man made exaltations. Also Peter (Petros) can mean Patier (Greek) for father. But Peters name means piece of the rock. Jesus Christ is the Rock. I think Pope is like a papa. Though our Father God is God & not the Pope. The Pope is really a Christian leader under Grace of God.

The Catholics believe their church started with the Apostle Peter. I don't know. One of the Apostles was in a Roman prison, & everyone converted to Christianity from prison up. I don't know if this was Peter. Peter was predjudice though until God gave him a vision of holy & unholy. The vision revealed that what God makes holy, though it used to be unclean, is holy.

It's a less-than-perfect use of the word "descendant." What is meant by that expression is that the line of popes is traced back to St. Peter. You can trace back the US presidents, the Canadian Prime Ministers, etc. much the same way.

Peter wasn't a "pope" as we know it today, but he was the leader of the early church. We look to scriptures here as well - Jesus tells Peter that he is the "rock" on which he will build his church. This passage was probably written more as a teaching tool than a historical recollection.

It is interesting to note that the Catholic religion gets most of its laws from the teachings and writings of Paul.

Peter is very clear in his writings that what the Catholic Church is doing is very wrong.

The only reason that I have ever heard of on the question of why they declare Peter as their first pope is that Jesus was talking to Peter about the cornerstone of the church being built on the rejected stone (Jesus Christ). Most Catholics mis interpreted this and declared Peter to be the corner stone of the church instead of Jesus Christ.

As is the way of the Goose and Luther, the Catholics will continue to reject anything that upsets their "tradition" no matter how untrue it turns out to be within their belief system. For if they took the time to read the writings of their self proclaimed first "pope" they would find that he was against most of the things that they continue to practice to this day.

Almost all of the first Christians were Jews. Paul was actually the first person to spread Christianity to Gentiles.

Originally Popes were allowed to marry. The last married Pope was Adrian II (867-872).

Popes don't say they are descendants of Peter, except maybe metaphorically. Popes say they are successors to Peter.

They consider Peter to have been the first pope, even though at the time of Peter there wasn't even a catholic church.

Professional descendants: spreading the faith. Plus, I think Peter WAS the 1st Pope.

The descent they refer to is in authority over the church, not in literal blood descent. Even the line of authority is debatable but that is the descendancy that the Popes claim.

Your mistaken. The Popes sit in the the Chair of Peter (i.e. the bishopric of Rome) by apostolic succession through the imposition of hands (laying on of hands, passing down authority). No one claims descent from Peter. They claim they are his successors.
