If I had a scar revision on my lip back in december and they gave me novocaine once for the main surgery and then another time when the ctiches broke and they had to reclose the scar. Could that have made me fail this hair drug test? I have never done a drug a day in my life. I read all online that novocaine can give false positives for cocaine. The medical lady at my mothers work says that it does and novocaine can stay in your system for up to a year. The employeer that I am trying to get the job at.....their doctor says that novocaine can not give false positives for cocaine. Any opinions on what I should do next??? Please Help.

Considering the inaccuracy rates in those hair tests, I am surprised that it was even used. The false positives in this method is close to 50% in some ethnic and racial groups. Because of this the military does not use it.
You need to seek legal advise as this doctor has likely cost you a job and the employer is possibly liable if this is their reason for not hiring you. If what you are saying is true that you have not done cocaine, it seems that the novocaine is a logical explanation. substances can stay in the hair for a long long time. i would talk to the supervisor but I would go in there with all the documentation you can gather that supports your position. it should be relatively easy to search and find out for sure if inovocaine gives false pos for cocaine, they are both in the same drug family. are you sure it was only novacaine that they used as there are many many "caine" medications out there. you may need to get your medical records and determine exactly what you received.

Talk to your family physician and see if he will give you an independent drug test. Get documentation of the times you were given Novocain. They should be able to do a second test to determine which caine popped the test, just like if you tell them you ate poppy seeds, they can test for that separate from heroine.

anything you put in your body WILL come out in your hair and stay there until you cut it off, so yes it can give you a false positive. If they want to know if you have used drugs recently they will have to piss test you.

if you really want the job, offer to take another hair test at your expense and see what happens. i would talk directly with an examiner/supervisor at the testing lab to verify what can give a false positive and make sure your test was performed correctly and not contaminated by accident or carelessness.

I don't know , what about toothache meds anbesol is 20% benzocaine it will pop you positive every time.

You might look for documentation of this phenomenon in the literature and educate the doctor in question. I would also speak with the supervisor in question.
